Corrie star lifts lid on awkward half-naked Tyrone scenes after brutal wet cement fight

Coronation Street actor Jamie Kenna has opened up about filming his brutal concrete slinging match with fellow soap star Alan Halsall, which will air this week on the ITV soap.

In upcoming scenes, Phill Whittaker, played by Jamie, and Tyrone Dobbs, played by Alan, get into a Corrie scrap this week after Fiz’s boyfriend’s enigmatic secret is finally revealed.

Tyrone has recently been suspicious that Phill is hiding something after his ex Fiz Stape left the cobbles for her new beau - but it is her daughter Hope who discovers the truth.

Phill is secretly writing a book on Hope's serial killer father and Fiz's ex John, which results in Fiz breaking things off.

In scenes later this week, Tyrone calls at Phill’s house to collect Fiz’s things, hoping this now means they’ll be reunited.

However a row ensues and as Tyrone makes a grab for Phill, they lose their balance and fall headlong into the wet cement on the patio.

This then leads to them hosing each other off in their underwear in the garden, in a scene of classic Corrie comedy.

Ahead of the scenes airing on ITV this week, Jamie Kenna, who plays Phill, said: “We had a Zoom call asking if we were comfortable to be in our pants, hosing each other off. We both said yes.

“I then went on an all-inclusive holiday where I was situated very close to a San Miguel tap, and Alan Halsall basically moved into his local gym. I'm not going to come out of this well.”

“I can't say I was excited and looking forward to it,” Halsall added. “It was a freezing cold day in Didsbury, to be wet through in a garden somewhere wasn't a great deal of fun.

“But what we've tried to do in these little moments is to have a lot of fun with it, to really put a smile on the audience's faces... I think it's just a really nice picture of this 6'4" guy and this 5'7" guy scrapping it out, the first time with an inflatable unicorn and sword and this time in wet concrete.

“It’s quite silly and I think people have appreciated that bit of humour in what is actually quite a sad situation of a a family break up and people trying to move on with their lives and find love. To have that comedy is classic Corrie.”

Kenna continued: “I feel really honoured and very privileged to be involved in at least two or three classic Corrie moments, this one and the Christmas Day fight.

“And I think on paper, they're not necessarily classic Corrie, they've got potential to be classic Corrie, and it comes down to the chemistry and how you work with that actor, and me and Al have just found this thing where we just stumble across funny things and we stumble across moments.”

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV.
