Corrie star Katie McGlynn opens up about dramatic hospital dash after panto collapse

Katie McGlynn has opened up about her dramatic hospital dash after collapsing before a pantomime performance.

The former Coronation Street star played Tinkerbell in Peter Pan in Northwich over the festive period but was forced to pull out of her role after falling ill with a virus.

The actress, who left the street in October six years after joining the soap as Sinead Tinker, spoke about her ordeal - which included being whisked to A&E in an ambulance - on ITV’s Lorraine.

“It was very dramatic,” Katie laughed. “There was an ambulance - I don’t remember that, I just remember waking up in A&E in my Tinkerbell costume.”

Katie told host Lorraine Kelly that she had been unwell for a while but thought it was just a cold until she fainted between shows.

She said: “I was feeling a bit under the weather but just powered through and didn’t think about it, I thought I have just got a cold.

“We were doing three shows a day at one point. I loved every second of it. I was feeling a bit off and sick and a bit stumbly and I thought, this is really weird.

“I just felt really spaced out. Then in between shows I fainted. Then all of it is a bit of a blur.”

Katie explained that she was advised to have rest as she had a virus brought on by exhaustion.

She continued: “I still felt off after two days of rest so I went to my own doctor who told me I needed one to two weeks off.

“I asked if I could do a cameo because I hate having a day off work, I don’t sit well with it, so it’s been tough for me.”

Speaking of how much she loved her time in the panto, Katie, who is now on the mend, added: “I loved everyone there, I loved the part. It was such a light relief - it’s basically stand up on stage. I was totally in my element.”

Lorraine airs weekdays from 9am on ITV.
