Corrie star discusses soap future as 'sobbing' fans demand action over tragic death scene

Dame Maureen Lipman has explained what will come next after the tragic death of Evelyn's pet dog on Coronation Street.

Viewers were horrified when Cerberus stopped eating, only for the vets to confirm he was dying and they made the tragic decision to put him down. Fans were in tears as they watched the emotional scenes.

Following the sad death, Evelyn struggled with the news and blamed Roy for what happened. Struggling with the guilt, he came over to visit her before she told him their friendship was over after what happened to the dog after it consumed an Eccles cake.

Speaking about what happens in future scenes, Maureen shared: "A curious thing happens, someone dumps a dog on Roy. Now, Evelyn doesn’t want to know about this, it is small so she calls this dog a guinea pig with identity issues.

"But between you and me it is the most adorable thing you’ve ever seen, Roy and David are obsessed with this dog. He’s tremendously jealous if the dog comes to me first, he’s a man obsessed with this little ball of fluff."

She added: "Evelyn is having nothing to do with it on the surface, but then something happens with Roy which means she has to take the dog for a while but not permanently. She tries to teach Roy what you do with a dog because he’s completely soft and clueless. She enrols Roy in her own dog class, which as you can imagine is very dogmatic!"

Fans were left sobbing and a mess because of the scenes that aired yesterday evening, as angry fans insisted the death didn't need to happen whilst others fumed it was "too much" for viewers.

"Corrie has f***ing had it now. all the storylines going on right now whatever that’s fine but i draw the line at doggy death," one wrote, as a second added: "In this world of cost of living crisis and other miseries, do we really need a story of a doggy death?"

A third penned: " @itvcorrie just wondering after tonight’s episode that you didn’t ask if anyone was affected about the dogs death ?? You always ask about other stuff and effects etc. Why not the dog ? #RIP #CEREBERUS #Corrie."

"I hate dog death episodes. Too upsetting #Corrie," a fourth upset viewer shared on social media.
