Corrie star Antony Cotton's mum makes starring role in ITV soap as Stephen kills again

Antony Cotton's mother made an appearance on Coronation Street tonight as Stephen strikes again.

The mother of the much-loved Corrie star made her fourth appearance in the ITV soap tonight, where she starred as the housekeeper who found the dead body of Rufus, Stephen's latest murder victim.

In scenes airing tonight, Enid played the unnamed housekeeper, who was being comforted by police after discovering the body of Rufus in his home. She was asked questions by Michael Bailey about what had happened to Rufus, before confirming his death.

Antony's mother Enid has appeared on the soap a handful of times in a guest role.

She has also had several other TV roles since the 1990s after deciding to follow her son into acting. Her 50th birthday prompted the career change and since then she has appeared in Doctors, The Bay, Shameless, Bancroft, Merseybeat and 2022 series Compulsion.

She had a recurring role as Betty Pargetter in hairdressing series Cutting It, starring Sarah Parish and Amanda Holden. Viewers may also have spotted her in Peter Kay’s Phoenix Nights as barmaid Joyce and in an one-off episode of Max & Paddy’s Road To Nowhere.

Enid has even appeared with son Antony in an advert for Yorkshire-based internet provider Plusnet. The 47-year-old couldn’t stop laughing in the cheeky clip, leaving his mum with no choice but to tell him off.

Joking, she says: "You’re not too big for a slap Antony. In front of these, I don’t care!"

Elsewhere on the ITV soap, Stephen has murdered his third victim now - and actor Todd Boyce previously hinted what's to come for the killer, and if he will murder again.

He said: "And after that I think there could be more. He has a taste for it now and I think he figures that if he gets caught for three, he might as well get caught for four or five. It would be great to go down in the record books as the show’s biggest serial killer. What a thing to be known for. I’m forever being asked by the cast, 'Now how long are you here for?'

"Then they’ll come back a month later and go, 'Tell me again, how long do you think you’re going to stay?'. They just want to know when they’ll be clear of me and when their future is safe! There have been rumours about Stephen killing very senior characters and they’re all cagey with me. Every single cast member I work with is worried that they could be next on my list. At the moment I’m doing a lot of scenes with Ryan Russell, who plays Michael Bailey, and he’s thinking, 'Hmm, when did I sign my last contract?'"
