Corrie spoilers: Griff's secret link to another resident exposed as Max in police danger

Coronation Street’s villain Griff Reynolds is set to see his secret link to a benefactor exposed next week on the ITV soap.

The racism storyline on the cobbles is reaching a climax in the lead-up to Christmas, as Max Turner (Paddy Bever) is on the verge of discovering how dangerous his new friend can be.

ITV spoilers have revealed that the troubled teen is forced to lie to the police next week on the soap, as Griff, played by Michael Condron, continues to wreak havoc with his far-right extremist gang.

In later scenes on the ITV soap, undercover copper Spider Nugent (Martin Hancock) is uneasy when Griff invites the troubled teen on a camping trip.

He later decides to do some digging into the identity of Griff's financial backer and his benefactor is soon revealed to ITV viewers. Who could it be?

In later scenes on Coronation Street, Max heads off with Griff on their camping trip but his father David Platt (Jack P. Shepherd) isn't happy about it.

The latter is likely going to end up proving right in his protests after weeks of unhappiness at who Max has been hanging around with.

However, it is then Max who is left horrified when the camping trip doesn't end the way he expected.

Later on, trouble arises for Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor) after she is implored by Spider to keep quiet and keep his secret.

Meanwhile, Griff convinces Max to lie to the police about what happened on the camping trip. Could the lies backfire on Max?

This comes after Ofcom confirmed it had received a number of complaints from ITV viewers, which they said ‘related to the racial violence storyline’.

The soap has already aired shocking scenes of Daryan Zahawi being attacked by the gang as their hateful motives begin to become clearer to the residents of Coronation Street.

Undercover police officer Spider is already trying to bring the gang down, while David Platt has already warned Max to be careful around Griff, but to no avail.

The storyline was announced earlier this year, when Coronation Street producer Iain MacLeod said: “Overall, Max's story is one about the grooming of a vulnerable teenager at a point where he's feeling most alienated and disenfranchised.

“The story will encompass the 'traditional' recruitment techniques of extremists groups, and we'll see Max befriended in person by older, mentor-like figures that will give him a sense of loyalty and brotherhood.

“Then, later in the story, we will explore a very 21st Century problem: teenagers self-radicalising through watching extreme content online.

“In the end, we wanted this to be a story about communication within families – what are the right and wrong ways to talk to younger family members who are gravitating towards extreme views?

“For the conclusion of the story, David's misjudged attempts to deal with Max will drive the narrative to a shocking and thought-provoking climax.”
