Coronation Street has teased an explosive set of spring storylines on the soap, which will see the return of Daniel Osbourne’s former flame Nicky Wheatley to the cobbles.
The former call girl, who supported a grieving Daniel in the wake of his beloved wife Sinead’s death, will be met with a frosty reception from the teacher’s new love interest Daisy Midgeley.
The Rovers Return barmaid will see Nicky as a threat to the new relationship, ITV spoilers have revealed.
Daisy Midgely is known for keeping her cards close to her chest but is set to show Coronation Street fans her mean streak when Nicky arrives, pulling out all the stops to keep her away from Daniel.
But Nicky will prove determined to stick around on the soap and even applies for a job at Daniel's school Weatherfield High.
How will Daisy react when she discovers the truth about Nicky’s past life?
Coronation Street bosses have said the upcoming spring storylines will make for an “exciting time” on the show.
“These stories will propel us into the hour-long era with a bang and all the characteristic drama, humour, twists and intrigue that Corrie viewers have come to expect,” he said.
“We’ve got high-octane action with tragic heroine Abi, leading to life and death dilemmas.
“We’ve got riotous romantic intrigue for Daniel, with deliciously dastardly Daisy pulling out all the stops to keep her man.
“We’ve got the uber-complex Gary, who has finally turned his life around and is atoning for his sins with Kelly, only to find himself facing a final reckoning with the ghosts from his past.
“And we’ve got heart-stopping, high-stakes drama for Sarah, featuring a knife-edge showdown between Adam and his tormentor Lydia, which will leave you wondering which one’s the bad guy. All of this in one big serving per night. What’s not to love?”
Charlotte Jordan, who plays Daisy Midgeley on Coronation Street, has said her character will be “totally taken off guard” by Nicky's return, as she’s heard nothing about Daniel's one-time love.
She told Digital Spy: “I think instantly it's her little antennas go up. I's a red flag. She's a beautiful lady asking about her boyfriend who she's only just got back on a stable footing with. So Daisy being Daisy sees the threat and tries to get rid of them.”
While Daisy may not initially be away of Nicky’s past as a call girl, the actress hinted this may come to light down the road.
She said: “I like to think she would be trying to be understanding and sympathetic, but Daisy being Daisy, and being so insecure, I think she'll just see her as a threat. She ends up making everything about her. So I don't think she'll react as maturely as she could.”
