Coronation Street’s Stephen Reid is up to his old tricks next week on the soap and Audrey Roberts could be in danger as a result.
Stephen (Todd Boyce) is feeling the walls closing in next week on the cobbles, as he fights to keep his money woes under wraps.
However, ITV spoilers have revealed he crosses a line next week when the dodgy businessman plans to drug his own mother Audrey (Sue Nicholls).
The storyline begins when Stephen receives an email inviting him to an interview in relation to some consultancy work, which he then attends with Drake via video call.
However, it doesn’t go to plan and when he later takes a call from the agency offering him a job as a fast food delivery driver, he accepts it in desperation.
Stephen makes his first delivery to Drake at the trendy ad agency, who finds it highly amusing that he’s been forced to take such a lowly job.
Feeling humiliated, Stephen calls the fast food delivery company and tells them he doesn't want the position anymore.
In later scenes, he tells Nick Tilsley ( Ben Price ) that sending Sam Blakeman (Jude Riordan) on a cruise with Audrey might not be such a good idea as he reckons the hairdresser is drinking again.
Nick insists the cruise must go ahead, leaving Stephen thwarted. However, he has another trick up his sleeve – which could put Audrey in severe danger.
He calls in the salon and steals Audrey's antidepressants from her bag, which she was prescribed after a suicide attempt.
Stephen later invites Nick to join him and Audrey in the Rovers to talk about the cruise but he has something else in mind.
Taking out the antidepressants, he crushes them into a thin powder. When Audrey has her back turned, heading towards the loo, Stephen pulls out the crushed tablets, intent on spiking her drink. But will he actually go through with it?
Todd Boyce, who plays Stephen, explained: "Losing the car is a real blow for him. Then things go from bad to worse when he is on his first delivery and a gang of kids crowd around his scooter and steal the food delivery box.
"Elaine comes round the corner to find him on the floor, but it just looks like a normal scooter because there is no food box, which is a blessing in disguise.
"He is such a good liar, he just spins this tale about having had a scooter in Milan and it is more eco friendly than having a car."
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV.
