Corrie's Sue Cleaver's weight loss journey - 'no obsessing over diets' and simple change

Coronation Street star Sue Cleaver continues to show off the results of her weight loss, recently looking incredible in a pink suit for an upcoming TV appearance.

Sue, 59, who has played Eileen Grimshaw since 2000, is thought to have dropped three stone over the years, thanks to a focus on her diet and lifestyle.

The I'm A Celebrity star won widespread praise for raising awareness of diabetes during her time in the jungle, in which she wore patch viewers speculated may have been a Dexcom, which monitors glucose levels.

Sue's condition was first reported back in 2011 when she collapsed on the set of Corrie and had to have hospital treatment.

Sue is known for playing Eileen Grimshaw in Coronation Street (ITV)

Sue changed her lifestyle after the incident, going from a size 14 to a 12 in 2019.

The star is said to favour the Mediterranean diet, which is high in vegetables, fruits, legumes, nuts, beans, cereals, grains, fish and unsaturated fats such as olive oil and usually includes a low intake of meat and dairy foods.

Discussing her weight loss, a source told Woman magazine: "Sue was always a self-confessed foodie, who admitted that over-indulgence was her Achilles Heel. Now everything's changed.

"Sue's in her mid-50s so it was a no-brainer that cutting down on certain things was what she had to do."

They concluded: "She's in this for the long game and wants to live a long, happy and healthy life."

However, Sue is clear that she doesn't obsess over diets.

Speaking to Prima Magazine in March, Sue said: “I lost some weight in the jungle, but I’m not obsessing over diets: life is hard enough!

“There's always going to be outside pressure and unfair expectations placed on women, but I refuse to get pulled into it.

"That's why I’ll never promote anything weight-related, and it’s why I’d always compliment somebody on their smile or outfit, rather than their weight."

In the same interview, Sue said her fifties have been the happiest ten years of her life, adding she's happy with herself and where she is.

Last week, fans were quick to support the actor, as she posted a stylish photo on Instagram, looking svelte in a pink suit, black shirt and white trainers, rocking a cropped blonde do.

Sue hinted at an upcoming TV appearance in her caption, saying it was "to be confirmed."

The star also thanked her make-up artist, writing: "What a treat to have my make-up done by the hugely talented @bryony_blake - thank you!!!"

Corrie co-star Jane Danson commented: "You look fabulous Sue!", while another follower wrote: "I’m currently watching you on episodes of Corrie from 20 years ago .. you look younger now."

Broadcaster Nicola Thorp wrote: "Bloody GORG", while TV chef Andi Oliver commented: "Looking fabulous darling! X"
