Coronation Street spoilers have teased drama between scammer Stephen Reid and Leo Thompkins, the partner of Jenny Connor.
Leo has yet to discover Jenny shared a secret smooch with Stephen, just before she accepted his marriage proposal - and the opportunity to move to Canada with him.
But he becomes suspicious of Stephen's lies next week about another issue, and his loved ones remain unaware he has no money - and has instead been scamming people, including his ex.
It now seems clear that Stephen is out to get his mother Audrey Roberts' money, and next week he comes to blows with Leo about his behaviour.
When the Platts fear the sinkhole in their garden is opening up again, Leo heads round to take a look - but he spots Stephen's unease when Audrey suggests they all stay at her house.
Later in the week, Leo is left thoughtful when he hears Stephen lying that he enjoyed a night in a posh hotel.
He's left concerned though when he overhears Audrey revealing a valuer from the estate agents was at her house, who told her that Stephen made an appointment.
With Audrey wanting answers, Stephen has to try and get himself out of his mess as Leo listens, intrigued - and it isn't long before things get heated.
Leo contemplates spilling what he knows as the two men end up fighting, before Leo storms out - so has he found out about Jenny?
Either way it's not over between the two men as later, Leo tells Stephen that it’s clear he’s lying to his family and lying about his financial situation and he intends to find out why.
It comes as soap producer Iain MacLeod revealed fans were right to keep an eye on Stephen, and it's thought he could go to "desperate and dark" lengths to keep up his games.
Teasing what was planned for the character, Iain also hinted that other characters could become involved with the character as his schemes continue. Speaking to The Mirror and other press, he said: "He will continue to get more and more desperate and more and more dark as the story unfolds.
"The beauty of his character really is that he's got this huge longevity in terms of his connection to the show and to a heritage family, but actually he is a bit of a blank canvas. If you think back through his archive scenes, we don't really know a lot about him. So we thought well, actually, if we're gonna fill in those blanks and we're gonna learn more about him shouldn't we make him dark, dangerous, interesting and scheming?"
Iain went on: "I'm really excited to have him back and viewers are so canny as well, as soon as he arrived everyone was like I've got him him marked. He's going to be a wrong'un, and they will be proved to be right in no small measure.
"So yeah, I'm excited to see the audience's reaction to the unfolding story when they realise that yes, he's every bit as desperate and dangerous as they predicted when he first returned."
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV and ITV Hub.
