Corrie's Kym Marsh to join Waterloo Road as BBC show's cast is announced

Coronation Street star Kym Marsh is set to join Waterloo Road.

The actress - best known for her role as Michelle Connor in the ITV soap for over a decade - has confirmed she will be joining the BBC One show when it is rebooted later this year, whilst Rachel Leskovac - who played the recently deceased Natasha Blakeman on the ITV soap - has also signed up for the new BBC series.

Kym said she is "thrilled" to be joining the cast, and she is set to play Nicky Walters, a school canteen worker and a mother to two pupils at Waterloo Road. She joins already announced actors Angela Griffin, Adam Thomas and Katie Griffiths.

The full cast of the much-loved BBC show - which is back on screens later this year - has now been revealed.

Speaking about her casting, she said: "I'm thrilled to be joining the fabulous cast of Waterloo Road, it’s such a joy to get the opportunity to film in Manchester again and I can’t wait to get going!"

Other actors joining the show include EastEnders ' Jo Coffey, who will play Wendy Whitwell, the PA to Headteacher Kim Campbell (Angela Griffin) whilst actor Vincent Jerome, who has starred in the likes of Wonder Woman 1984 and Transformers: The Last Knight will star as joint Deputy Head alongside Joe Casey, also a Deputy Head and played by James Baxter from Still Open All Hours.

Kym's fellow Corrie star Sonia Ibrahim - who appeared as Mel Maguire on the ITV soap for a few months - will play Jamilah Omar, the school's social worker whilst Shauna Shim (The Worst Witch) will join as music teacher Valerie Chambers.

Neil Fitzmaurice, known for Phoenix Nights, stars as history teacher Neil Guthrie, whilst Coral Walker, played by Corrie's Rachel Leskovac - best known to soap fans as Natasha Blakeman - will be Head of English.

Katherine Pearce completes the cast as Amy Spratt, an early career teacher.

Executive Producer Cameron Roach added: "We’re incredibly excited to announce our new cast, and we believe that alongside the return of Kim Campbell we’re creating some new iconic characters for the next generation of Waterloo Road.

"We look forward to the audience joining them in the staff room."

As well as the new actors and actresses, Waterloo Road bosses recently confirmed Angela Griffin, Adam Thomas and Katie Griffiths would be back on the show, reprising their roles as Kim Campbell, Donte Charles and Chlo Charles.
