Coronation Street’s Kel Allen has teased an explosive finale for her character on the soap ahead of her exit from the cobbles.
The Laura Neelan actress has opened up about her final emotional scenes on the ITV soap, as fans have watched her suffer a debilitating terminal illness.
Deciding to sacrifice her daughter Kelly Neelan’s opinion of her, Laura took the blame for the murder of her husband Rick so that his real killer Gary Windass can continue to care for Kelly.
The actress’s storyline is set to end with her character’s death, but Corrie fans have been desperate to know whether the truth of Rick’s death will be revealed to her daughter Kelly before it’s too late.
Kel appeared on Wednesday’s instalment of Lorraine opposite Ranvir Singh, who is standing in for Lorraine Kelly during the Easter break, to chat over the emotional final scenes she filmed in recent weeks.
The 44-year-old TV presenter asked the question all Corrie viewers want to know about the truth of the Gary drama, after which Kel gasped and cheekily asked back whether the truth be revealed at all before she dies.
Kel continued: “Will Laura actually tell the police that Gary did it? This is the sad thing, because I think as a viewer you watch it and know that Laura’s not done it and she’s done it for Kelly.”
Ranvir replied: “Kelly’s going to miss out on those final moments with her mum, because she’s so upset.”
Kel then cryptically replied: “But will she? Potentially. She’s asking to see her at the moment, so will she see her?”
She said of Laura’s sacrifice to protect Gary in the eyes of her daughter Kelly that she can “understand her perspective”.
“She’s dying, she wants the security for her daughter, so she’s putting her child’s needs before anything and that’s her priority,” she said.
Ranvir then pivoted the conversation to discuss Kel’s experience on set filming her emotional final death scenes with the Corrie crew.
Kel said she did several of the heavy final “emotional” scenes with Mikey North, who plays Gary, saying: “We’d be looking at each other and start welling up”.
She added: “All this emotion would come because we knew that these big scenes were coming.
“We were just going and saying someone needs to put a camera on us and film it quickly.
“The crew were crying. We were all having a little cry over the scenes for Laura, just at how sad they were.”
Ranvir replied: “That must be really gratifying, because you want the audience to feel all your feelings, but then you as an actress are leaving Coronation Street as well, so it’s two things going one.”
Kel concluded: “I knew it was coming and was saying, ‘It’s going to be fine, it will be alright’, but you’ve got the emotion of crying all day long.
“You’ve got Kel and Laura crying. They were big emotional scenes, taking on that and showing a different side of Laura. It’s been great as an actor just to get your teeth into playing all those emotions.”
