Corrie's Jim McDonald star Charlie Lawson in talks to make shock return to ITV soap

Coronation Street's Jim McDonald could make a shock return to the ITV soap.

Actor Charlie Lawson has revealed there's a chance of his iconic character returning to the show one day, as he shared that he has regular talks with the producer about the possibility of coming back to the Cobbles.

During his time on the show, Jim was involved in some huge storylines and in his most recent appearance in 2018, he tried to con his ex-wife Liz McDonald out of her savings after claiming he'd found their long lost daughter Katie

Speaking about a possible return to the ITV soap, Charlie revealed he regularly checks in with the producers, as he added to GB News: "There's every chance my character could make a comeback but it's not going to be as easy as my last return a few years ago."

Charlie previously hinted he could be back within the year, but fears Jim McDonald wouldn't fit in with the new 'woke' culture.

"In six months’ time there might just be a gasp, the cameras cut to the door in the Rovers Return and there’s your man," he said during a chat on Paul Martin's PM On Saturday radio show on Belfast 247.

"The last time I was on [Corrie] was three years ago, but [since then] politically correct wokeness has been born and revamped and has become a pain in the arse, and the question is: where would Jim McDonald fit in?"

He claimed that the producers have an "appetite" for Charlie to make a return to the iconic Cobbles.

"I’ve spoken to Ian and Simon and there is an appetite there. They think Jim’s return could bring something to the show," he added.

"Ian is having a meeting about storylines with all the scriptwriters in a couple of weeks and it’s going to be mentioned there. We will see what happens. It’s to be hoped the crop of writers aren’t into ticking boxes and all this politically correct nonsense and they can see a place for Jim and his no-nonsense attitude to life. I’m definitely up for it."

He said the talk surrounding a potential return has been very positive.

"I’m up for the comeback. The writers need to have a think about how that can work and what Jim would be doing there," he said, "But the lines of communication are open and I’m still in touch with a lot of the old cast members. The talk around it has all been positive."
