Corrie's Ellie Leach teases 'emotional' final scenes as she quits soap after 12 years

Coronation Street's Faye Windass is confirmed to be leaving the ITV soap in upcoming scenes, with actress Ellie Leach quitting the role after 12 years.

Now, actress Ellie has spilled on her "emotional" final scenes, as she leaves the soap character behind after over a decade in the role.

Ellie was around 10 years old when she took on the role and couldn't imagine that she'd still be there now, having been at the centre of huge storylines including a teen pregnancy, a hit and run and the attack on Adam Barlow.

In upcoming scenes the character will bow out, as she leaves fiancé Craig Tinker for a new life away from Weatherfield, following the recent return of her daughter Miley, and her ex Jackson.

Speaking to The Mirror and other press about her final episode, Ellie confessed it was "emotional" to film having been on the soap for most of her life.

She explained: "It was very, very emotional as obviously Faye is leaving the Street after 12 years, but it's me leaving the Street after 12 years as well.

"The saddest part is where she's in the taxi and we just see Craig on his own walking down the street and she's like stop the car, she gets out and says, 'I'll always love you, I always have and I always will'.

"I think it was just so emotional and you do see there's two people here who do love each other, but there are so many other factors, love isn't always enough and I think you can see that in that last scene."

She added: "It was very emotional, Faye has been here for 12 years but I have too and this has been my life."

Discussing what leads to Faye initially staying and then leaving, she went on: "I think the overriding feeling is she is always gonna wanna be with her daughter, and there may have come a point where she thought... there is a massive secret that Craig is holding against her, but is it gonna jeopardise her having a family? I don't know."

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITV X.
