Coronation Street’s Colson Smith has revealed he learned to swim while competing in ITV ’s The Games.
The 23-year-old is best known as the loveable Craig Tinker in Coronation Street but he will be hoping to show off his sporting prowess on The Games, which hits screens this evening.
ITV ’s new reality sports show The Games will see 12 celebrities go head-to-head in a series of challenges, across a week of live shows.
The Cobbles favourite said he has pushed himself to the limit for Holly Willoughby's new show, during an appearance on This Morning.
Speaking via video link from Crystal Place, Colson told presenters Phillip Schofield and Rochelle Humes he opened up about the training for the nine Olympic sports the celebs will be taking part in.
Colson said: “It’s a pinch myself moment. I’m very proud of myself. I’m just looking forward to getting started now. We’re really excited for what’s to come. We've had a very fun few weeks.”
Rochelle asked the soap star whether there was anything he had accomplished which he had surprised himself with.
Colson replied: “In my everyday life I go to the gym and I go running, which normal people do, but I had never been on a dive board. I couldn’t swim, so I taught myself to swim and then learned from the best coaches around here.”
The contestants taking part alongside Christine include Love Island alum Olivia Attwood, influencer Phoenix Brown, ex-Strictly pro and leading man Kevin Clifton, pop star Max George, song writer Chelcee Grimes and Harry Potter actor Josh Herdman.
Joining them are Coronation Street actor Colson Smith, newsreader Lucrezia Millarini, musician and Love Island star Wes Nelson, Emmerdale actor Rebecca Sarker and actor Ryan Thomas.
Love Island's Chloe Burrows and TV & Radio host Will Njobvu act as reserves, ready to step in should the need arise.
The celebs will be taking part to compete against each other in a range of challenges including track events and in the swimming pool on the new ITV series.
Cameras will show the team members being trained and coached by professionals and then competing against each other in the hopes of bagging medals.
The reality series will be hosted by Holly Willoughby and Top Gear's Freddie Flintoff.
Holly will host the show which will see twelve celebrity competitors battle it out in the athletics arena, the swimming pool, gymnasium and velodrome.
Each star will put their sporting skills to the test in events from the 100-metre sprint to diving, racking up points on the medals table.
Former professional footballer Alex Scott will star on the show as a trackside reporter alongside fellow football star and presenter Chris Kamara who will appear as a commentator.
