Corrie's Chesney actor Sam Aston reveals how famous siblings have helped him on soap

Coronation Street star Sam Aston has revealed how growing up with a big family, including five sisters and three brothers, helped him with certain scenes on the ITV soap.

Not only that, but some of his siblings have also dabbled in the acting world, including soaps - and he said this helped him when he first joined the show in 2003.

In fact, one of his brothers and one of his sisters have both been on Coronation Street at some point, prior to Sam landing the role that shot him to fame.

The actor was around 10 years old when the joined as the son of Cilla and brother to Fiz, with his famous beloved dog Schmeichel.

With Sam having played Chesney for 20 years now, he has lasted longer on the Cobbles than his siblings but his sister Emily actually appeared in another soap fairly recently.

That said, Emily did appear in Corrie for 51 episodes according to her IMDB age as her character Rebecca Palmer - the teenage stepdaughter of Des Barnes.

Earlier this year she appeared in two episodes of Hollyoaks as the mother of Vicky Grant, while other past roles include stints in Doctors, The Bill, Heartbeat, Holby City and Where The Heart Is.

As for their brother Joseph, he played the son of Tommy Duckworth as a child on Corrie in 2000, while the role was recast later on.

Other roles include stints in Peak Practice, Heartbeat, Casualty and Doctors. Another of Sam's brothers, Thomas Aston, hasn't appeared in soaps but did have roles in Casualty, Peak Practice and The Bill in the 90s.

Over recent years, viewers have seen Chesney become a dad of five kids, including quadruplets with his bride-to-be Gemma Winter.

At one point it was said there were eight babies on set for filming, while the youngsters are a little bit older now.

But Sam said it wasn't all that chaotic as viewers may expect, and he credited having a big family and loads of siblings for him being so calm.

Sam is also a dad of two young children, which no doubt helps when keeping the young cast entertained on set.

Speaking to The Mirror and other press, he said: "Because I grew up in a big family anyway, I've always been used to the chaos. I've got five sisters, three brothers. So I'm used to a lot of people being around in the house and children and all sorts.

"So it's not as crazy as it sounds. I don't think it's as crazy as what it could be when you initially think there's four babies on set.

"I think it's harder if anything when there's newborns and we were brand new to it. Because I've got two kids myself, maybe I am a bit more calm in that situation."

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITV X.
