Corrie's Charlotte Jordan shares heartfelt message with behind-the-scenes snaps from acid attack as she's tipped to win BAFTA

Coronation Street star Charlotte Jordan has thanked fans for their praise after harrowing scenes which saw her character Daisy Midgeley targeted with acid by stalker Justin Rutherford. Bride Daisy was seen going through a myriad of emotions after twisted Justin turned up at the Rovers Return just as she was setting off for her wedding day in Monday night's episode.

As she was locking up the pub with Ryan Connor, who stepped in as her chauffeur, Jutin stepped out of the shadows with a clear glass of liquid and hurled it in her direction. Devastatingly it was Ryan who took the force of the acid as he stepped in.

After dialling 999, a frantic Daisy got Ryan into the shower under running cold water and cut the shirt off his back. In a heartbreaking exchange with DS Swain, the barmaid, who had a stalking protection order rejected, pointed out how many times she had reported Justin. "You knew everything about him and he was still free to do this," she seethed.

Daisy, who was pursued by Justin ever since they met at the hospital as she waited for test results over a cancer scare and was kind to him, was also distraught as she blamed herself. "It wasn't meant for him, it was meant for me," she told her stepmum Jenny Connor. "It's my fault. I moved this to the next level."

As Daisy waited at the hospital for news on Ryan, she spotted Justin staring at her from his car parked outside. In an emotional final confrontation she kept him talking until police swooped and arrested him on suspicion of GBH.

Impressed viewers tipped Charlotte, co-star Ryan Prescott who plays Ryan and the soap to win awards. @Charles69700909 tweeted: "Charlotte Jordan is a shoe in for a BAFTA after tonight performance, simply amazing."

@pirwany applauded: #Corrie Tonight’s incredible episode of stalking and acid attack is worthy of @bafta. What an acting by Daisy (Charlotte Jordan)." And @pirwany said: "Charlotte Jordan was super excellent tonight. Charlotte and this episode deserve @BAFTA 100 per cent."

Charlotte, who arrived on our screens in the ITV soap in November 2020, shared a heartfelt message on her Instagram along with behind-the-scenes photos of herself getting her hair done as bride Daisy. Another snap showed her posing with the wedding car with Rob Mallard who plays Daniel Osbourne.

"Feel quite overwhelmed with all the messages about last nights Corrie," she typed. "So many people to thank for delivering episodes on such a sensitive and unfortunately, prevalent subject matter. It really is a team effort and wanted to say thank you for watching, even when it’s hard."

Co-star Samia Longchambon, who plays Maria Windass, responded with applause and a love heart emoji and Georgia Taylor who plays Toyah Battersby replied with a stream of love hearts.

Soap watcher Declan Farrell replied: "You're amazing last night, a standing ovation. Hope this will be recognised in time with many awards." And another viewer commented: "As somebody who has lived with the effects of having a stalker (ten years now) and knowing how hard it it’s to stop them even when convicted, thankyou from the bottom of my heart for running this story and doing it so well.

"It’s been triggering for me and a hard watch but such an important issue to highlight, despite a HMRC report a few years back looking into stalking and policing , there are still not enough powers out there and much more needs to be done. Well done my lovely to you and all the team x"
