Corrie's Amy Barlow actress spotted enjoying coffee with her new onscreen lover

Coronation Street actress Elle Mulvaney has been spotted away from the set of the ITV soap with the actor who plays her new onscreen lover.

Elle, who plays teenager Amy Barlow, headed out for coffee with Jack James, who portrays Jacob Hay in the much-loved programme.

Elle, 19, looked totally at ease as she strolled alongside 25-year-old Jack clutching a large hot drink from Costa Coffee.

The soap star was grinning from ear-to-ear as she took a break from filming and was dressed down in grey loose-fitting jeans and a matching puffer jacket.

Jack was wearing a similar coat and teamed his with blue baggy jeans and a white T-shirt and matching trainers.

It was recently confirmed that the pair's characters will strike up a romance on the cobbles - but it's unsure how Amy's parents will react to the news.

Drug dealer Jacob is back on the scene in Weatherfield after he was previously recruited by drug lord Harvey Gaskell (Will Mellor).

Jacob's actions previously saw Amy's cousin Simon Barlow (Alex Bain) become involved in the gang which led to evil Harvey mistakenly murdering Natasha Blakeman (Rachel Leskovac) instead of Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson).

And judging by recent episodes, it seems Jacob hasn't changed his dodgy ways - despite telling Amy that he's left his old life in the past.

Coronation Street boss Iain MacLeod recently revealed why he decided to bring Jacob back to the ITV soap.

"What appealed was him as a fantastic actor, very Coronation Street, he has funny bones and authentic comedy – sometimes when we imports bad guys, sometimes it doesn’t have authenticity," he said.

"But it works with him, I believe him 100%. We will pair him up with someone historically well behaved. She is quite sensible given her family dynamic and that’s Amy.

"How will Tracy and Steve react to the worst possible boyfriend – they try with failure to strategise this, cut her off financially, reverse psychology.

"Meanwhile Jacob is redeeming himself – we discover about how he arrived in the drug gang and it will reframe views of him."

Iain continued: "He is trying to put the past behind him and make amends with Leanne and Simon. Jacob was groomed – he did do some heinous things but he is mature enough to know he has to put things right.

"It’s Meet the Parents proper Corrie style. All the characters in this are cast iron Corrie, it’s a rich story."
