Corrie fans spot potential new romance in sweet moment on the ITV soap

Coronation Street fans are hoping for a new romance on the cobbles after spotting a potential couple in Weatherfield.

Matchmakers noticed a spark amid dark times on the famous street as Simon Barlow almost ran into Kelly Neelan on his bike.

In a kindly gesture Simon ordered her to the chippy to make sure she had eaten after his friend opened up to him about her troubles.

Sunday's hour-long episode saw a frazzled Kelly almost hit by his bike as she checked her phone.

When he asked what was wrong she replied: "I got about two hours kip last night, I haven't eaten since this morning, I haven't stopped all day and... I'm on my period. Well you asked."

Simon almost ran Kelly over (ITV)

Simon explained he couldn't do anything about her sleep or 'the other thing' but he insisted that she came to the chippy.

And fans think this could be the start of something.

@RyanGTweetsTV tweeted: "I think Kelly and Simon could get together."

@j_raff2021 commented: "Simon and Kelly could be interesting for getting together?"

And @bredrew2 said: "Oh, I forgot we were trying to pair Simon & Kelly up..."

Kelly and Simon have both been through a rocky upbringing as Simon's dad Peter has battled alcholism, his brother Oliver Battersby died from Mitochondrial Disease in 2020 and he was roped into selling drugs while trying to support his grieving mum Leanne.

Last year Kelly was wrongly jailed for the murder of Seb Franklin and ended up homeless after being released.

She is now secretly caring for her abusive mother Laura, who neglected her when she was a child, after finding out she is dying of stomach cancer.

Interviewed by a social worker, Kelly described her devastating childhood, explaining how her cruel mum would knock her about and then go missing for days.
