Corrie fans say 'forget Romeo and Juliet' as they cry out for couple to get together

Corrie fans are praying that an unlikely couple finally get together. The pair have been likened to some of the world's greatest lovers, including Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.

So who are the young love birds? None other than Roy Cropper and Evelyne Plummer.

The unlikely couple, Roy with his heart of gold and Evelyn with her brutal one-liners, have been building a relationship over the years but the pair have not been seeing eye to eye of late. They even co-share a dog.

The two have been dancing around each other for some time and tonight (June 30) Evelyn finally admitted that she values Roy's friendship. But even that caused friction as Roy realised she had opened a private letter she had sworn she would keep sealed.

With the two once again butting heads, Evelyn left the street to help her daughter, Cassie (played by Claire Sweeney), go cold turkey. The failed romance has left fans crying out for the older couple to finally get together.

Taking to Twitter, Carl Antony Roberts (@Carlicus) said: "Forget Romeo and Juliet. Forget Kate and Wills. You can even forget Barbie and Ken.

"I don’t think I’ve ever wanted to see a pairing have a happy ending as much as I do Roy Cropper and Evelyn Plummer."

Ryan Glendenning (@RyanTheSoapking) added that he thinks it's just a matter of time before the become a couple. He said: "Can't wait for Roy and Evelyn's first kiss (it'll happen eventually) and it'll be a beautiful moment. #Corrie."

Doreen Morfitt (@penniless_poet) added: "This is so annoying! It's obvious Roy has feelings for Evelyn and she's got feelings for him! It just makes me go "ARGH!" #Corrie."

Some just loved the story line involving the two characters. Shadowman (@landd96498356) added: "Evelyn and Roy scenes are so damn good."
