Corrie fans fume at ITV soap for 'replacing' Jenny Connor as she makes huge U-turn

Coronation Street fans have fumed at the soap for 'replacing' Jenny Connor.

Jenny – played by Sally Ann Matthews – is a fan favourite character but viewers of the ITV soap feel her character has changed a lot recently. She is currently part of a huge storyline with killer Stephen Reid and Leo's dad Teddy. Jenny was dating Leo before he was killed by Stephen, who sent texts from his phone pretending he had made it to Canada.

However, Stephen had actually hid the body and has spent the past few months trying to keep things a secret. Teddy, though, has been desperate to uncover what happened to his son, convinced something was up.

Jenny has been supportive of Teddy's plight to find out what really happened to Leo, but she has no idea that Stephen was behind Leo's disappearance and death and has been thankful for his support.

Fans of the ITV soap have been left fuming by Jenny's lack of suspicion over Stephen and said she used to be a "strong and confident" woman but now had no idea that Stephen was manipulating her and the situation.

"Remember when Jenny used to be a strong, clever woman? Now she's been replaced with a non-character who doesn't even notice she's being stalked by Stephen," one viewer wrote on Twitter.

Another added: "Why isn’t anyone asking why Stephen follows Jenny around?", whilst a third penned on social media: "Annoys me that Stephen is following our Jenny around like a leech right now."

It comes after Coronation Street boss Iain Macleod says the soap’s cast are so paranoid about becoming the next victim of killer Stephen Reid that they fear their time is up every meeting he calls.

"Whenever you’ve got a killer on a soap, the whole cast is worried – is it going to be me? When I call an actor in for a chat, they think ‘That’s it! Todd Boyce is going to do me in!’ Lots of people should be worried," he said.

"I love Todd. He sees Stephen as a very desperate man backed into a corner – a very enlightened view of who he is!"
