Coronation Street fans have been left convinced Stu Carpenter could be in danger on the ITV soap after suspicions have arisen around Stephen Reid.
Soap watchers now think the sneaky newcomer on the cobbles could be the killer of Stu Carpenter's ex himself, a crime which Stu (Bill Fellows) took the fall for.
Stu has now been arrested on the soap last week, as PC Craig Tinker put him in handcuffs in Yasmeen Nazir’s (Shelley King) house after he refused to leave, desperate to tell her the full story of his past after she learnt he had been prosecuted for murder 27 years ago.
Stu revealed he had an affair behind his ex-wife Lucy's back when the woman was found dead making him the prime suspect.
However, Coronation Street fans have been left certain he’s in fact innocent and their suspicions have pointed to a new face on the soap – Stephen.
Audrey’s son has been seen taking secretive phone calls and using someone else's bank card for a phone transaction, under the mystery name Gabrielle Reid.
Fans are fearful he is set to con fragile Audrey out of her savings or swindle Yasmeen and blame it on Stu – meanwhile, some have even suggested he could be the killer of Stu's ex.
Taking to Twitter, one fan said: "Did Stephen kill his ex-wife???"
Another wrote: "Stephen is the killer... That Stu went down for!"
A third penned: "I hope Audrey doesn’t let Stephen have hold of the trust fund."
This comes after Coronation Street fans believe they have worked out what could be coming for Stu on the ITV soap after he was arrested during Wednesday’s episode in dramatic scenes.
When Stu arrived at Yasmeen’s house in scenes that aired on Wednesday evening, she was visibly distressed and started to panic when he said he would not leave until she heard him out.
A shaky Yasmeen listened as Stu explained that dodgy copper Detective Lennox forced him into a confession, taking advantage of the fact he had lost his way after returning from the Navy.
Despite the heartfelt plea, Yasmeen was unmoved and remained adamant Stu must be guilty of the crime – she even compared him to her traumatic past caused by Geoff.
After she secretly called Zeedan (Qasim Akhtar) for help, he burst into the house alongside Craig ( Colson Smith ).
But as the arrest was conducted a watch was seen falling out of Stu’s pocket, unbeknownst to him. Once Stu had been whisked away to the police station, Yasmeen told Zeedan to throw the watch – leaving many fans predicting it could hold the clue to Stu’s future.
Taking to Twitter after the dramatic scenes aired, one fan hypothesised: “I feel like the watch is engraved or something,” hinting it could hold an important secret.
