Corrie fans could soon be able to spend the night at the 'real Rovers Return'

Corrie fans could soon spend a night in the 'real' Rovers Return pub. That's because the Chapel Street inn with a very famous name is attempting to add a hotel to its premises.

The Rovers Return, opposite the Sacred Trinity Church at the eastern end of the road, has submitted plans to Salford City Council to renovate its building. The plans would see an extension added to the rear of the building to add 12 hotel rooms, if approved.

All the rooms will be en-suite, architectural drawings show. Some 10 rooms will be doubles, with two singles.

“The majority of the proposed 12 hotel bedrooms will be accommodated within the existing structure,” a statement from applicant agent AJ Cocker Associates said. “A small extension to the first floor, over the existing ground floor flat roof, is proposed to the elevation fronting Barlow’s Croft.

“This extension will accommodate two of the proposed bedrooms. In addition, the existing unsatisfactory access stairs will be replaced by a new staircase enclosed within an extension to the existing property at the rear.”

As soap fans will know, the Rovers Return is also the name of the boozer in Weatherfield — which is based on Salford. Over the last couple of years, its real life namesake has improved its frontage and added some foliage outside.

You can see the full planning application on Salford City Council’s website.
