Coronation Street aired worrying scenes for Gemma Winter on Friday night, following a horror overdose ordeal.
Gemma was left in a state after little Bertie Osbourne, who she was looking after, swallowed some of her antidepressants tablets. Gemma had been prescribed them after recent heartache in the family.
After agreeing to look after Bertie while also keeping an eye on her own children, Gemma began to struggle as she couldn't keep her eyes open. Her mother Bernie arrived home and offered to help out, but as Gemma popped to the café Bertie's aunt Beth had a go at her for leaving the kids.
Gemma did return home but ended up falling asleep. As Daniel arrived to collect his son Bertie, Gemma was horrified to see him holding her tablet packet. Daniel rushed his son to hospital after he told him he had taken some of the tablets, with Gemma realising five were missing.
At the hospital Gemma and Daniel learned Bertie was going to be okay, with no longterm harm expected. Gemma felt terrible though, while Daniel was understanding.
Someone who wasn't understanding though was Beth, who wasted no time in slamming Gemma. At the end of the episode, Gemma was devastated by a phone call.
As her partner Chesney asked her what was wrong, she revealed someone had called social services and told them about the incident with Bertie.
Bernie accused Daniel of being the caller before suggesting it was protocol and nothing to worry about. Gemma was panicked though, fearing they would say she was unfit to care for her children.
Gemma panicked that her young quads might be taken away from her if social services believe it is warranted. But will Gemma lose her children, and will she find out who spoke out about her?
It seems so as next week she's called out by Beth, who soon admits she's the one behind the report. Gemma is told that she faces a substantial fine amid her financial woes.
Chesney seeks help from Beth's ex Kirk, asking him to tell Beth to back off given what Gemma has recently been going through, following her twin brother Paul's motor neurone disease diagnosis. But will she listen?
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITV X.
