Coronation Street teased another shocking death on Wednesday, while fans did not see it air.
They soon took to Twitter though to react, after realising a character had very likely been murdered at the hands of a serial killer.
What was shown was the build-up to the death, after spoilers confirmed last week that a character would be killed off in scenes to air this week.
Friday's episode will see characters learn that Rufus is dead, while nothing suggests foul play.
Wednesday night's episode seemed to be the moment that it happened, after a mystery character knocked at his door only for him to vanish moments later.
Viewers then saw Michael Bailey attend his home but there was no answer, seemingly confirming Rufus was already dead.
While viewers didn't see how he died or who, if anyone, killed him, it was confirmed by The Mirror last month that Stephen Reid would kill again in April, and the victim would drown.
Rufus has not stopped going on about his pool at his home and was even using it during Wednesday's episode, seen wearing a spa gown.
So it didn't take much for viewers to work out that Rufus would be the drowning victim, especially given Stephen's hatred of the character.
On Wednesday, Stephen was seen in a furious row with Rufus over his latest demands, with him continuing to blackmail the current factory manager.
Rufus knows that Stephen drugged factory owner Carla Connor with LSD and made her and others think she was suffering from psychosis again, leading to her taking some time away.
Since then, he's demanded Stephen give him the rights to the factory's latest fashion line, and now he wants 50 percent of the profits too.
Stephen raged at Rufus over his demands knowing he would be out of pocket, but Rufus threatened to spill the beans.
After agreeing to his request, his anger was only increased when he learned factory employee Michael was leaving and going to work with Rufus instead.
Michael, who came up with the designs for the line and got none of the credit, called out Stephen and told him about his plan to work with Rufus in London.
Stephen looked angry and gave a menacing stare as he downed his drink, with it clear he had a plan in mind.
Not long after, a mystery person knocked at Rufus' door causing him to ask: "What are you doing here?"
Viewers didn't see the visitor or what happened next, but as Michael knocked at his house there was no answer and no sign of Rufus.
So it seems, given Friday's episode synopsis reveals he's been found dead, the death had to have happened during Wednesday's episode - before Michael got to the house.
It seems considering the spoilers and the news about Stephen drowning his victim, that the killer may have struck again and that Rufus is his third victim.
Viewers will have to tune in on Friday night for more details, while it's not known if fans will get to see the death play out.
Fans believe they already know Rufus' fate though, with one tweeting: "Stephen has killed Rufus."
Another agreed: "It's not rufus's day is it? Car stolen and being killed by Stephen!" and a third added: "It's so obvious that Stephen has killed Rufus, or most likely anyway."
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and ITV X.
