Corrie autumn 2022 spoilers: Dangerous stunt, Spider exposed and Stephen turns 'dark'

Coronation Street is lining up huge and dramatic scenes this September, with a big week of episodes on the way too.

From a dangerous rooftop stunt, cinematic scenes and a character's secret being exposed, to other residents falling apart, it's safe to say there's a lot going on.

As some residents find their worst fears realised, and others become desperate, one character will be bowing out of the show in this big week.

Corrie boss Iain MacLeod has teased what lies ahead for some of our favourite residents in the coming weeks, while there's still a lot to be revealed. Here's what we know so far...

'Explosive' stunt week as Kelly exits - and Gary rumbled

A huge stunt could be on the way, with a rooftop sequence tying in with the exit of Kelly Neelan (ITV)

Iain has revealed the soap is lining up a huge week of episodes, where storylines collide and 'explosive' scenes air. A huge stunt could be on the way, with a rooftop sequence tying in with the exit of Kelly Neelan.

Iain has hinted at "danger" and "explosive" scenes, as the cast have been filming scenes for a big week on the cobbles using "cinematic" technology.

Hinting that they've been able to film dramatic moments without the need for stunt doubles or without endangering cast members, Iain told The Mirror and other press that the cast have been filming "high stakes" scenes surrounding actress Millie Gibson's departure.

Suggesting secrets and lies will be exposed in the episodes, Iain revealed the time had come for Gary Windass' killer past to explode.

Iain spilled: "What we've done is create this incredible rooftop sequence with a source of twinkling Mancunian cityscape behind it, so that we can do things that you could never normally do in a location shoot. You can put real actors in what appears to be very real danger without using stunt performance. You can have the camera behave in a way that it can't do in the real world.

"So we created this incredibly cinematic sequence at the centrepiece of this week, which I'm incredibly excited about. I've only seen the rushes and it already looks incredible. So there's that.

"The gist of the week is, we all know, and it leaves me with a heavy heart to say, but we all know Kelly's leaving the show. So we thought well, actually, the fact that Millie is going and that therefore Kelly is going allows us to go really big and do something incredibly high stakes, to maybe have some characters step on all these landmines that we've buried for them over the years and have them go off in one cataclysmic explosion.

"So we've really thrown everything at this week to try and bring out all the big secrets, lies, reveals, and schemes. As I say, it's literally got very high stakes and jeopardy, it's visually incredibly impressive. I don't think any continuing drama, as far as I know, has ever used this technological before. I think we will be the first to do it. So it's got that kind of truly cinematic feel to it. It's funny, it's got the party to end all parties in the middle of it."

Stephen exposed with 'dark' consequences

Stephen Reid will soon be exposed as a baddie (ITV)

Stephen Reid will soon be exposed as a baddie, as his scams and lies catch up with him. It's thought he could go to "desperate and dark" lengths to keep up his games.

Stephen has been acting oddly since he returned earlier this year, and fans were immediately convinced he was hiding something.

With him appearing to be after Audrey's money, and him even seeming to target other residents, viewers are starting to learn more about Stephen and his past.

That said, boss Iain has now revealed the schemer will become as "dangerous" as viewers predicted in his early scenes following his comeback to the show.

Stephen and Jenny get close (ITV)

Teasing what was planned for the character, Iain also hinted that other characters could become involved with the character as his schemes continue. Speaking to The Mirror and other press, he said: "He will continue to get more and more desperate and more and more dark as the story unfolds.

"The beauty of his character really is that he's got this huge longevity in terms of his connection to the show and to a heritage family, but actually he is a bit of a blank canvas. If you think back through his archive scenes, we don't really know a lot about him.

"So we thought well, actually, if we're gonna fill in those blanks and we're gonna learn more about him shouldn't we make him dark, dangerous, interesting and scheming?" Jenny and Leo are two characters that could find themselves caught up in Stephen's drama, following Stephen and Jenny's secret kiss.

Corrie fans learn Spider's big secret, and Toyah in turmoil

Coronation Street viewers will be left "gasping" when they finally find out Spider Nugent's secret (ITV)

Coronation Street viewers will be left "gasping" when they finally find out Spider Nugent's secret later this year. It's been teased it could have a huge impact on Toyah Battersby, and that she will make a "huge mistake".

Corrie producer Iain hinted there were surprising scenes ahead for the characters, as the truth is set to come out about his past. Speaking to The Mirror and other press, Iain teased Toyah would end up confiding in Spider about what really happened during the car crash that killed Imran Habeeb.

As the truth is finally out, so is Spider's own secret - with it said he's "the worst option in terms of who she should be confessing to".

Iain spilled: "Well, obviously the impending prospects of a life sentence for Toyah ramps up all of her emotions around what's happened, and specifically what she did to Imran and her guilt over all that. And she kind of reaches this huge emotional crisis point. She's got this kind of burning desire to repent or just find some kind of catharsis and she ends up unburdening herself entirely to Spider, talking in detail for the first time about what went on behind the wheel of that car.

Iain teased Toyah would end up confiding in Spider (ITV)

"To what extent or not she feels comfortable with what happened to Imran and how much of it wasn't an accident, and how much was it? Was it deliberate? She's satisfied and believes that that's the best person she could tell, the person she can trust the most. In fact, at that time, he's the worst conceivable option in terms of who she should be confessing to."

Iain added: "We had a lengthy and heated debate about what Spider's life looks like now. Is he the eternal teenager that's still chaining himself to trees as he's tried to grow up as the character's got older? What does the 21st century version of Spider look like, you know?

"How has he gone about trying to change the world for the better since we last saw him? I think the answers we came up with are surprising, shocking, interesting, and I think will maybe make the audience gasp slightly when we discover exactly what's going on with this life in the present."

Iain also teased Spider would have a "surprising level of threat when he discovers what Toyah claims she's done in that car".

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV and ITV Hub.
