Coronation Street actor Ryan Prescott says the impacts of the acid attack will be "lifelong" for his character.
Ryan Connor was hit by the corrosive liquid when evil stalker Justin targeted Daisy Midgeley on her wedding day. Since the attack, he has been struggling in hospital as he tries to come to terms with what's happened with him.
Actor Ryan has explained how what happened to his character will stay with him for his enter life, as he opened up about what fans can expect in the coming weeks, months and years on the ITV soap as he copes with the changes.
"The recovery period is so long, if not lifelong. It’s psychotherapy, physiotherapy for many years if not the rest of your life. PTSD, trauma therapy, learning the simple things of dealing with people looking at you in the street," Ryan explained.
"There’s a whole phase of trying to accept that people are going to react differently to you now."
He believes that the fact Ryan's face was hit by the acid will mean "everything changes".
He added: "Your face is the first thing you look at when you get up in the morning and look in the mirror. It’s your first means of communication, the thing you most readily identify with yourself. When that changes, everything changes.
"Despite the massive shift that the incident causes, he is determined to not let it define who he is. He is trying to find his way back to the infectious spirit, but it’s a long road."
He previously explained that there will be different stages of acceptance and denial for Ryan.
"He's started see life will never be the same again, in which he's kind of trying to reach out and clutch on to whatever he can within his life that will allow him to deny this reality. One of them being Alya, this new love interest Crystal," he said.
"As he sees these things slipping away he tries to reach out and grab a hold of them in desperation, but I think he knows."
He added: "As soon as something like this happens there are stages of acceptance and denial, but slowly bit by bit he starts to understand the gravity of his wounds and what has happened."
