Coronavirus Interactive Map and Taiwan Updates

Taiwan confirmed its first Covid-19 case outside of China on January 21, 2020. President Tsai Ing-wen made a swift decision to close Taiwan’s borders from Wuhan two days later. As the outbreak escalated, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) banned the entry of all Chinese citizens as well as foreign nationals who may have visited China, Hong Kong, or Macau in the last 14 days.

Excluded from the World Health Organization, Taiwan is kept from accessing firsthand information on the epidemic. The WHO has included Taiwan together with China as a high-risk area, causing other countries to impose travel ban on the island.

Despite the international community’s neglect, Taiwan has been exceptional in minimizing the spread of coronavirus. The News Lens is keeping track of the cases via real-time data from Johns Hopkins CSSE and providing updates on Taiwan’s disease control and measures.
