Coronavirus infection rates are continuing to drop across all ten boroughs of Greater Manchester and, in the last recorded week, have fallen by almost a third. Currently, Stockport continues to have the highest coronavirus infection rate in the region and is the only borough with a rate higher than the national average.
The borough recorded a rate of 199.9 cases per 100,000 people in the week ending April 23 - this is compared with the UK average of 197.0 cases per 100,000 people. The lowest infection rate is in Manchester, where the rate is 131.5 cases per 100,000 people.
In Greater Manchester as a whole, the infection rate is now 161.9 cases per 100,000 population. A total of 4,592 people tested positive for coronavirus across Greater Manchester in the week which ended on April 23. The Greater Manchester weekly total has decreased by 1848 cases compared to the previous week, which means the infection rate was down 29 per cent in the last week.

Hospital admissions
In the week ending on April 17, a total of 692 patients were admitted to Greater Manchester NHS hospitals with Covid-19. That is 23 fewer than the week before, a fall of 3 per cent.
On Tuesday April 19, there were 19 Mechanical Ventilation (MV) beds occupied by Covid patients in Greater Manchester NHS hospitals. That is three more than a week earlier.
Deaths
In the week ending April 23, a total of 59 people died within 28 days of a positive Covid test across Greater Manchester, which is 9 fewer than the week before. Since the start of the pandemic, there have been a total of 985,713 confirmed coronavirus cases in Greater Manchester - there has been a total of 9,180 deaths.
Cases reported in each of the ten boroughs
Bolton
Bolton saw a total of 477 cases in the week ending April 23, which is 78 fewer than the previous week. That is a fall of 14 per cent. In Bolton, the most recent coronavirus infection rate is now 165.5 cases per 100,000 people.
Salford
In Salford, the latest infection rate is 179.3 cases per 100,000 people and the number of cases has gone down by 21 per cent. A total of 471 people tested positive for Covid in Salford over the seven days ending on April 23, which is 122 fewer than the week before.
Trafford
Trafford recorded 412 coronavirus cases, which is 298 fewer than in the previous seven days. The latest infection rate in Trafford is 173.4 cases per 100,000 people and that is down 42 per cent week-on-week.
Rochdale
In Rochdale, the number of cases is down by 21 per cent compared to the previous week - leaving the infection rate at 146.7 cases per 100,000 population. There were 328 positive Covid-19 tests in Rochdale in the week ending April 23, which was 87 fewer than the previous 7 days.
Oldham
Oldham is an area where the trend is down. The latest infection rate here is 132.6 cases per 100,000 people. There were 315 cases recorded in Oldham, which is 114 fewer than the previous week - a fall of 27 per cent.
Wigan
There were 598 positive tests over the last week in Wigan, which is 230 fewer than in the previous week. The week-on-week trend in Wigan is down by 28 per cent and the latest infection rate is 180.8 cases per 100,000 people.
Tameside
There was a fall of 31 per cent in cases in Tameside over the week ending April 23, and the infection rate is now 151.5 cases per 100,000 population. Tameside recorded 344 positive Covid-19 tests over the seven-day period, and that is 152 fewer than the previous week.
Stockport
In Stockport, there were 588 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending April 23, which is 284 fewer than the previous 7 days. Stockport has the highest infection rate in the region. The infection rate in Stockport is down slightly compared with the previous day and the week-on-week trend is down by 33 per cent.
Manchester
Manchester, which has the lowest infection rate in the region, recorded 731 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending April 23, which is 366 fewer than the previous 7 days. The coronavirus infection rate in Manchester is now 131.5 cases per 100,000 people and is down by 33 per cent week-on-week.
Bury
The trend is down in Bury, where there were 328 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending April 23, which is 117 fewer than the previous 7 days. That is down by 26 per cent compared to the previous week. The latest infection rate in Bury is 172.0 cases per 100,000 people, which is lower than the national average.
