Coronavirus infection rates have gone up in all ten boroughs of Greater Manchester and are continuing to rise, with hospitalisations also seeing an increase, new figures have revealed. Of the ten local authority areas, Trafford continues to have the highest coronavirus infection rate in Greater Manchester, with a rate of 854.5 cases per 100,000 people in the week ending March 25.
The lowest infection rate is in Oldham, where the rate is 442.3 cases per 100,000 people. In Greater Manchester as a whole, the infection rate is now 624.0 cases per 100,000 population.
However, the infection rate in the region is still lower than the national average, which is 877.9 cases per 100,000 people. A total of 17,695 people tested positive for coronavirus across Greater Manchester in the week which ended on March 25.

The Greater Manchester weekly total has increased by 2832 cases compared to the previous week, which means the infection rate was up 19 per cent in the last week.. The infection rate is lower than the national average in all ten local authorities in Greater Manchester.
Hospital admissions
In the week ending on March 20, a total of 567 patients were admitted to Greater Manchester NHS hospitals with Covid-19. That is 156 more than the week before, a rise of 38 per cent.
On Tuesday March 22, there were 14 Mechanical Ventilation (MV) beds occupied by Covid patients in Greater Manchester NHS hospitals. That is four more than a week earlier.
Deaths
In the week ending March 25, a total of 26 people died within 28 days of a positive Covid test across Greater Manchester, which is 5 more than the week before.
Since the start of the pandemic, there have been a total of 949,160 confirmed coronavirus cases in Greater Manchester. There has been a total of 8,862 deaths.
Cases reported in each of the ten boroughs
Stockport
There were 2334 positive tests over the last week in Stockport, which is 107 more than in the previous week.
The week-on-week trend in Stockport is up by five per cent and the latest infection rate is 793.3 cases per 100,000 people.
Trafford
In Trafford, there were 2030 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending March 25, which is 234 more than the previous 7 days.
Trafford has the highest infection rate in the region. The infection rate in Trafford is down slightly compared with the previous day but the week-on-week trend is up by 13 per cent.
Bury
Bury saw a total of 1176 cases in the week ending March 25, which is 139 more than the previous week. That is a rise of 13 per cent.
In Bury, the most recent coronavirus infection rate is now 616.6 cases per 100,000 people.
Manchester
There was a rise of 14 per cent in cases in Manchester over the week ending March 25, and the infection rate is now 582.5 cases per 100,000 population.
Manchester recorded 3237 positive Covid-19 tests over the seven-day period, and that is 391 more than the previous week.
Oldham
Oldham, which has the lowest infection rate in the region, recorded 1051 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending March 25, which is 139 more than the previous 7 days.
The coronavirus infection rate in Oldham is now 442.3 cases per 100,000 people and is up by 15 per cent week-on-week.
Rochdale
Rochdale is an area where the trend is up. The latest infection rate here is 475.7 cases per 100,000 people.
There were 1064 cases recorded in Rochdale, which is 224 more than the previous week - a rise of 27 per cent.
Tameside
In Tameside, the latest infection rate is 676.3 cases per 100,000 people and the number of cases has gone up by 27 per cent.
A total of 1536 people tested positive for Covid in Tameside over the seven days ending on March 25, which is 324 more than the week before.
Wigan
The trend is up in Wigan, where there were 2120 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending March 25, which is 557 more than the previous 7 days. That is up by 36 per cent compared to the previous week.
The latest infection rate in Wigan is 641.0 cases per 100,000 people, which is lower than the national average.
Salford
Salford recorded 1714 coronavirus cases, which is 387 more than in the previous seven days.
The latest infection rate in Salford is 652.5 cases per 100,000 people and that is up 29 per cent week-on-week.
Bolton
In Bolton, the number of cases is up by 30 per cent compared to the previous week - leaving the infection rate at 497.1 cases per 100,000 population.
There were 1433 positive Covid-19 tests in Bolton in the week ending March 25, which was 330 more than the previous 7 days.
