Coronavirus infection rates are continuing to fall in all ten boroughs of Greater Manchester, according to the latest figures. Rates have dropped by more than 40 per cent in some local authority areas.
Trafford continues to have the highest coronavirus infection rate in Greater Manchester, with a rate of 411.2 cases per 100,000 people in the week ending April 8. The lowest infection rate is now in Manchester, where the rate is 258.6 cases per 100,000 people.
In Greater Manchester as a whole, the infection rate is now 317.7 cases per 100,000 population. The infection rate in the region is lower than the national average, which is 434.3 cases per 100,000 people.

A total of 9,009 people tested positive for coronavirus across Greater Manchester in the week which ended on April 8. The Greater Manchester weekly total has decreased by 6357 cases compared to the previous week, which means the infection rate was down 41 per cent in the last week.
Hospital admissions
In the week ending on April 03, a total of 801 patients were admitted to Greater Manchester NHS hospitals with Covid-19. That is 75 more than the week before, a rise of 10 per cent.
On Tuesday April 05, there were 14 Mechanical Ventilation (MV) beds occupied by Covid patients in Greater Manchester NHS hospitals. That is one fewer than a week earlier.
Deaths
In the week ending April 8, a total of 37 people died within 28 days of a positive Covid test across Greater Manchester, which is 6 fewer than the week before.
Since the start of the pandemic, there have been a total of 973,683 confirmed coronavirus cases in Greater Manchester. There has been a total of 9,028 deaths.
Cases reported in each of the ten boroughs
Bolton
In Bolton, the number of cases is down by 39 per cent compared to the previous week - leaving the infection rate at 283.4 cases per 100,000 population.
There were 817 positive Covid-19 tests in Bolton in the week ending April 8, which was 512 fewer than the previous 7 days.
Oldham
Oldham is an area where the trend is down. The latest infection rate here is 263.4 cases per 100,000 people.
There were 626 cases recorded in Oldham, which is 344 fewer than the previous week - a fall of 35 per cent.
Tameside
Tameside saw a total of 731 cases in the week ending April 8, which is 614 fewer than the previous week. That is a fall of 46 per cent.
In Tameside, the most recent coronavirus infection rate is now 321.9 cases per 100,000 people.
Rochdale
There was a fall of 37 per cent in cases in Rochdale over the week ending April 8, and the infection rate is now 290.6 cases per 100,000 population.
Rochdale recorded 650 positive Covid-19 tests over the seven-day period, and that is 383 fewer than the previous week.
Wigan
In Wigan, the latest infection rate is 353.8 cases per 100,000 people and the number of cases has gone down by 37 per cent.
A total of 1170 people tested positive for Covid in Wigan over the seven days ending on April 8, which is 675 fewer than the week before.
Salford
The trend is down in Salford, where there were 847 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending April 8, which is 622 fewer than the previous 7 days. That is down by 42 per cent compared to the previous week.
The latest infection rate in Salford is 322.4 cases per 100,000 people, which is lower than the national average.
Trafford
In Trafford, there were 977 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending April 8, which is 621 fewer than the previous 7 days.
Trafford has the highest infection rate in the region. The infection rate in Trafford is down slightly compared with the previous day and the week-on-week trend is down by 39 per cent.
Manchester
Manchester, which has the lowest infection rate in the region, recorded 1437 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending April 8, which is 1302 fewer than the previous 7 days.
The coronavirus infection rate in Manchester is now 258.6 cases per 100,000 people and is down by 48 per cent week-on-week.
Stockport
There were 1119 positive tests over the last week in Stockport, which is 891 fewer than in the previous week.
The week-on-week trend in Stockport is down by 44 per cent and the latest infection rate is 380.4 cases per 100,000 people.
Bury
Bury recorded 635 coronavirus cases, which is 393 fewer than in the previous seven days.
The latest infection rate in Bury is 333.0 cases per 100,000 people and that is down 38 per cent week-on-week.
