Coronavirus infection rates are now falling in all ten boroughs of Greater Manchester. It follows on from the trend across the UK, which is also seeing cases fall - however cases across the region still remain lower than the national average.
Stockport continues to have the highest coronavirus infection rate in Greater Manchester, with a rate of 682.9 cases per 100,000 people as of week ending April 1. The lowest infection rate is in Oldham, where the rate is 406.9 cases per 100,000 people.
However, figures show that Trafford has seen the biggest week-on-week drop, at 22 per cent, followed by Manchester at 16 per cent, and then Salford, where the rates have fallen by 15 per cent in the past week. In Greater Manchester as a whole, the infection rate is now 541.2 cases per 100,000 population - this remains lower than the national average, which is 712.2 cases per 100,000 people.

A total of 15,346 people tested positive for coronavirus across Greater Manchester in the week which ended on April 1. The Greater Manchester weekly total has decreased by 2465 cases compared to the previous week, which means the infection rate was down 14 per cent in the last week.
Hospital admissions
In the week ending on March 27, a total of 726 patients were admitted to Greater Manchester NHS hospitals with Covid-19. That is 159 more than the week before, a rise of 28 per cent.
On Tuesday March 29, there were 15 Mechanical Ventilation (MV) beds occupied by Covid patients in Greater Manchester NHS hospitals. That is one more than a week earlier.
Deaths
In the week ending April 1, a total of 31 people died within 28 days of a positive Covid test across Greater Manchester, which is 5 more than the week before.
Since the start of the pandemic, there have been a total of 964,649 confirmed coronavirus cases in Greater Manchester. There has been a total of 8,897 deaths.
Cases reported in each of the ten boroughs
Wigan
The trend is down in Wigan, where there were 1842 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending April 1, which is 283 fewer than the previous 7 days. That is down by 13 per cent compared to the previous week.
The latest infection rate in Wigan is 557.0 cases per 100,000 people, which is lower than the national average.
Stockport
In Stockport, there were 2009 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending April 1, which is 337 fewer than the previous 7 days.
Stockport has the highest infection rate in the region. The infection rate in Stockport is down slightly compared with the previous day and the week-on-week trend is down by 14 per cent.
Bolton
In Bolton, the number of cases is down by nine per cent compared to the previous week - leaving the infection rate at 460.7 cases per 100,000 population.
There were 1328 positive Covid-19 tests in Bolton in the week ending April 1, which was 130 fewer than the previous 7 days.
Tameside
In Tameside, the latest infection rate is 592.2 cases per 100,000 people and the number of cases has gone down by 13 per cent.
A total of 1345 people tested positive for Covid in Tameside over the seven days ending on April 1, which is 201 fewer than the week before.
Bury
Bury saw a total of 1026 cases in the week ending April 1, which is 159 fewer than the previous week. That is a fall of 13 per cent.
In Bury, the most recent coronavirus infection rate is now 538.0 cases per 100,000 people.
Trafford
There were 1596 positive tests over the last week in Trafford, which is 439 fewer than in the previous week.
The week-on-week trend in Trafford is down by 22 per cent and the latest infection rate is 671.8 cases per 100,000 people.
Manchester
There was a fall of 16 per cent in cases in Manchester over the week ending April 1, and the infection rate is now 492.5 cases per 100,000 population.
Manchester recorded 2737 positive Covid-19 tests over the seven-day period, and that is 520 fewer than the previous week.
Oldham
Oldham, which has the lowest infection rate in the region, recorded 967 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending April 1, which is 94 fewer than the previous 7 days.
The coronavirus infection rate in Oldham is now 406.9 cases per 100,000 people and is down by nine per cent week-on-week.
Salford
Salford recorded 1466 coronavirus cases, which is 257 fewer than in the previous seven days.
The latest infection rate in Salford is 558.1 cases per 100,000 people and that is down 15 per cent week-on-week.
Rochdale
Rochdale is an area where the trend is down. The latest infection rate here is 460.5 cases per 100,000 people.
There were 1030 cases recorded in Rochdale, which is 45 fewer than the previous week - a fall of four per cent.
