Coronavirus infection rates across the region have risen by more than 40 per cent in the last week, as they continue to rise in all ten boroughs. According to the latest data, over 15,000 people tested positive in the week ending March 19.
Stockport continues to have the highest coronavirus infection rate in Greater Manchester, with a rate of 766.5 cases per 100,000 people in the week ending March 19. This is compared with the lowest rate in Rochdale, of 382.7 cases per 100,000.
In Greater Manchester as a whole, the infection rate is now 534.7 cases per 100,000 population. However, the infection rate in the region is lower than the national average, which is 830.6 cases per 100,000 people.

A total of 15,163 people tested positive for coronavirus across Greater Manchester in the week which ended on March 19. The Greater Manchester weekly total has increased by 4454 cases compared to the previous week, which means the infection rate was up 42 per cent in the last week.

Hospital admissions
In the week ending on March 13, a total of 411 patients were admitted to Greater Manchester NHS hospitals with Covid-19. That is 76 more than the week before, a rise of 23 per cent.
On Tuesday March 15, there were 10 Mechanical Ventilation (MV) beds occupied by Covid patients in Greater Manchester NHS hospitals. That is one fewer than a week earlier.
Deaths
In the week ending March 19, a total of 21 people died within 28 days of a positive Covid test across Greater Manchester, which is 5 more than the week before.
Since the start of the pandemic, there have been a total of 933,260 confirmed coronavirus cases in Greater Manchester. There has been a total of 8,835 deaths.
Cases reported in each of the ten boroughs
Rochdale
Rochdale, which has the lowest infection rate in the region, recorded 856 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending March 19, which is 313 more than the previous 7 days.
The coronavirus infection rate in Rochdale is now 382.7 cases per 100,000 people and is up by 58 per cent week-on-week.
Salford
The trend is up in Salford, where there were 1378 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending March 19, which is 407 more than the previous 7 days. That is up by 42 per cent compared to the previous week.
The latest infection rate in Salford is 524.6 cases per 100,000 people, which is lower than the national average.
Trafford
There were 1810 positive tests over the last week in Trafford, which is 431 more than in the previous week.
The week-on-week trend in Trafford is up by 31 per cent and the latest infection rate is 761.9 cases per 100,000 people.
Wigan
There was a rise of 39 per cent in cases in Wigan over the week ending March 19, and the infection rate is now 485.0 cases per 100,000 population.
Wigan recorded 1604 positive Covid-19 tests over the seven-day period, and that is 448 more than the previous week.
Tameside
Tameside recorded 1248 coronavirus cases, which is 435 more than in the previous seven days.
The latest infection rate in Tameside is 549.5 cases per 100,000 people and that is up 54 per cent week-on-week.
Bolton
Bolton is an area where the trend is up. The latest infection rate here is 389.9 cases per 100,000 people.
There were 1124 cases recorded in Bolton, which is 293 more than the previous week - a rise of 35 per cent.
Bury
In Bury, the latest infection rate is 565.8 cases per 100,000 people and the number of cases has gone up by 40 per cent.
A total of 1079 people tested positive for Covid in Bury over the seven days ending on March 19, which is 307 more than the week before.
Stockport
In Stockport, there were 2255 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending March 19, which is 675 more than the previous 7 days.
Stockport has the highest infection rate in the region. The infection rate in Stockport is up slightly compared with the previous day and the week-on-week trend is up by 43 per cent.
Oldham
In Oldham, the number of cases is up by 54 per cent compared to the previous week - leaving the infection rate at 396.4 cases per 100,000 population.
There were 942 positive Covid-19 tests in Oldham in the week ending March 19, which was 329 more than the previous 7 days.
Manchester
Manchester saw a total of 2867 cases in the week ending March 19, which is 816 more than the previous week. That is a rise of 40 per cent.
In Manchester, the most recent coronavirus infection rate is now 515.9 cases per 100,000 people.
