Coronation weekend weather forecast as Scotland set for drizzly bank holiday

King Charles' coronation is fast approaching with lots of people across Scotland and the rest of UK looking forward to a long weekend to celebrate.

Whether you are tuning into the historic ceremony or using the long weekend to spend some time with friends and family, one thing than can make or break your plans is the weather.

Things are looking a little drizzly this weekend, with wet conditions for much of Scotland. Temperatures will be around average for the time of year, with western areas expected to see the best of the brighter weather throughout the bank holiday coronation celebrations. To help you plan out your bank holiday, here is the full Scottish forecast for the coronation weekend.

Friday

As the bank holiday weekend begins, the weather will be largely unsettled across Scotland. Friday will be a day of both sunshine and showers, with rainfall becoming heavy in some areas as well as thunder and lightning in parts.

The rain will be more persistent across eastern parts of Scotland.

The central belt will see highs f 15C and lows of 8C overnight.

Saturday

Saturday is set to be another cloudy, wet day for much of Scotland, according to the Met Office.

Showers are likely to develop across central, eastern and northern areas of the country. However, the showers are not forecast to be as intense or heavy as those on Friday, with longer dry period throughout the day.

However, it is best to keep your umbrella on hand if heading out.

Highs of 16C across the central belt but temperatures will peak at around 10C in more northeastern areas of Scotland. Lows of 8C throughout.

Sunday

Things will be a little drier on Sunday across eastern areas. However, drizzle will persist with showers across some parts in the early hours.

Western Scotland is set to see the driest and brightest weather throughout Sunday as the coronation celebrations continue.

A dry evening throughout, with highs of 12-16C across Scotland. Temperatures set forecast to drop to around 9C overnight..

Monday

Eastern areas will start out mostly dry on Monday. However, a band of rain will sweep from the west and travel eastwards throughout the day bringing rainfall to many areas.

The rain will be followed by sunshine and scattered showers, the Met Office reports, with windy conditions expected to create fresh feeling conditions.

Temperatures will be around average for the time of year, with highs of 16C and lows of 9C.

Met Office Deputy Chief Forecaster, Steven Keates, said: “A further area of rain is expected to move into southwest England early on Saturday, moving east and north through the day with some heavy bursts at times. This is likely to bring some rain to London by around lunchtime.

"Further north in Scotland, northern England and Northern Ireland it will be a day of sunshine and showers before the more persistent rain moves northwards overnight. It will feel humid, especially in the south, with highs of 17°C possible in London.”
