Coronation viewers divided as Joanna Lumley shares 'tone deaf' Royal revelation

Dame Joanna Lumley has recounted several of her experiences with staying with the new King and Queen of England.

The Absolutely Fabulous legend, 77, was one of the many celebrities who were invited to King Charles' Coronation on Saturday, and during an interview with Sky News, the actress spoke about how she is treated like royalty every time she stays in one of the King and Queen's palaces.

Speaking outside Westminster Abbey, where she opened up about her close bond with the royals, Joanna confessed that every time she visits King Charles, her car is filled up to the brim with petrol before she leaves and every inch of her vehicle is polished and cleaned.

"We have stayed with them [the King and Queen] in various places, and it's so normal and so friendly but also so unbelievably welcoming and generous - utterly thrilling," Joanna described of her time spent with the royals in their palaces.

The actress continued: "At Sandringham your car is taken away but by the time it's brought back to you at the end of your visit, it's filled with petrol and been cleaned.

"So that's a thrill. It's gorgeous," Joanna added.

Naturally, following her royal revelation, many Coronation viewers were left incredibly frustrated by Joanna's controversial confession as they questioned why taxpayers should have to contribute to celebrities getting granted free petrol by the King.

Given the current cost of living crisis, several UK residents took to Twitter to slam the actress for her 'tone deaf' confession as thousands of people are currently relying on food banks - with petrol being the last thing they are able to afford.

"I can barely afford to fuel my own car, glad to hear I'm helping the rich fill theirs," one Coronation viewer tweeted.

"Cost of living crisis and tax payers money is being used to clean celebrities cars? Wake up Britain," another echoed.

Someone else shared: "Free petrol and car valet service for celebrities all on us, yet folks will get triggered about feeding hungry kids a school meal."

"Jolly good, what a thrill that must be......meanwhile other people wonder how they are going to fill their car, put food on the table or pay the energy bill.....but that's OK," someone else argued.

While another Twitter user fumed: "Read the room. The cost of the living crisis and we're paying towards filling celebrities cars up."

"Read the room Joanna Thousands of families can't afford a hot meal today, but you enjoy your royal perks," another wrote.

However, some were seemingly unbothered by the revelation, with one Twitter user joking: "Might have to go for a visit, hate cleaning the car."

Another quipped: "Who gets to keep the Nectar points?"
