Coronation Street viewers call out 'impossible' Abi birth blunder after baby twist

Coronation Street viewers reckoned there were some serious flaws in a recent episode of the ITV soap.

In dramatic scenes, Abi Franklin, played by Sally Carman, 40, was distraught when she gave birth despite being just six months pregnant.

Left in labour at the side of the road, Abi eventually found her way to hospital - but that's when things got weird.

Sitting up in bed with her legs crossed, the troubled mum gave birth to a baby boy.

But viewers were stunned by the 'unrealistic scenes'.

One took to Twitter, saying: "There’s no way Abi could have given birth whilst sitting up leaning forward like that?!

While another mused: "Blimey, I've had 3 kids but never sitting up legs crossed!"

As Abi returned home to her ex Kevin, wearing the same clothes she staggered into the hospital in, many also pointed out that she would have been kept on the ward and would have changed and washed herself.

One said: "Oh my word how unrealistic was that? Then she went home in the same clothes and didn't even change or shower!!"

Another quipped: "Gives birth, puts on same jeans waters broke in and off home for a lie down in Kev's gaff."

Drug dependent Abi has recently relapsed after Kevin overheard the mum-of-four talking to Sally about her one-night stand.

The new mum is yet to reveal that the father of her son is Imran Habeeb, who she had a fling with while with Kevin.

Abi had no idea she was pregnant, with actress Sally explaining to The Mirror and other press that there were no signs to suggest she was.

The mechanic, posing as Jennifer, soon scarpered from the hospital after her son was born.

However in last night's episode nurse Aggie Bailey worked out Abi was baby's mother and tried to convince her to go to hospital.

As Abi tried to report her dealer Dean to the police she began bleeding heavily, waiting for an ambulance to come and save her life.

Suffering from complications from the birth, the new mum was minutes from death, however when she finally got to hospital she was convinced to fight for her son.

Sadly, Abi's hopes were dashed after a social worker told her she needed to be assessed due to her drug addiction.

They said: "You can see him while he’s in hospital if that’s what you want but I need to make you aware that depending on the outcome of our assessment that you may not be able to take him home.”

Abi pleaded: “You can’t do that to me. I made a mistake - I didn’t know I was pregnant or I would have never got high."

However after being told she would need to go to rehab and involve the baby's father, Abi said she didn't want her son - much to viewers' heartbreak.

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV.
