Halloween is fast approaching - but it doesn’t have to be the spookiest night of the year to scare the wits out of us on our favourite cobbled street.
Over the years, we've witnessed some shocking, frightening and at times creepy moments on ITV's Coronation Street. From characters' gruesome deaths to spine-tingling threats, there have been so many stand out scenes such as ‘Norman Bates with a Briefcase’, Richard Hillman and his reign of terror over the cobbles, and the demise of much-loved barmaid Tina McIntyre.

We've delved into the past to revisit some of the creepiest moments to take place on the cobbles in years gone by. Some of the characters involved have come and gone, but these storylines remain in our memories.
This list isn't intended to be comprehensive, we've selected a number of moments from the popular soap through the years. But if you feel there are any we should have included, let us know in the comments section.
Tina McIntyre’s murder
The nation gasped when the feisty barmaid played by Michelle Keegan was pushed from the building yard balcony by nasty Rob Donovan, after she found out that he and Tracy Barlow were selling illegal stock. But there was a double shock when Tina turned out to be alive.
And Rob silenced her by picking up a metal pipe and repeatedly beat her with it. Tina later suffered a heart attack and attempts to resuscitate her in hospital failed.
Norman Bates with a Briefcase
Bubbly Maxine Peacock was slaughtered by Gail’s husband Richard Hillman, who had originally planned to kill elderly Emily Bishop while she was babysitting for Maxine and Ashley. But when Maxine returned home alone early from her mum’s birthday celebrations she was hit several times with a crowbar after he famously told her "you should have stayed at the party Maxine."
His evil reign began when he found out that Gail’s mother, Audrey Roberts, was worth £250,000. And he managed to convince Audrey and her family that she had Alzheimer’s disease and tried to kill her by setting her house on fire.
Killer Katy strikes
Disgusted by his daughter Katy’s relationship with older man Martin Platt, mechanic Tommy Harris made up a story that he was having an affair to persuade her to have an abortion. When she found out the truth she lashed out and hit him with a wrench in his garage.

Tracy’s lapdance
When Tracy Barlow found out about her boyfriend Charlie Stubbs’ affair with Maria, she went after revenge. After performing a lap dance for him, she hit him around the head with a heavy statue ornament.
Tracy claimed she’d killed him in self-defence and was given a life sentence. She was later found not guilty at the retrial, owing to the unreliability of forensic evidence.
John Stape’s death spree
John stole teacher Colin Fishwick’s identity after being sacked from his job at an adult education centre. But it all went horribly wrong when Colin unexpectedly returned, confronted John and died of a brain haemorrhage. John and his pal Charlotte disposed of Colin’s body in a hole in the floor of the Underworld factory.
Charlotte died after John hit her with a hammer. And it didn’t stop there. John then murdered Colin’s mum after placing his hand over her mouth to stop her screaming for help when she found out the truth.
And he took Chesney and Charlotte’s parents hostage before jumping off the hospital roof, where his wife Fiz was being treated in hospital, and disappeared. A few months later he returned to Weatherfield and, after kidnapping Rosie, he crashed his car and died from his injuries.
Callum Logan meets his end
Drug dealer Callum was murdered, by an angry Kylie with a wrench, in the memorable live episode last September when she found him attacking her sister-in-law Sarah. He was then wrapped in a blanket and buried in a manhole under Gail’s granny flat. Shudder.
