Coronation Street star Stephanie Davis rushed to hospital with suspected pneumonia

Stephanie Davis, known for her roles in Coronation Street and Hollyoaks, has revealed she was rushed to hospital after doctors feared she had pneumonia.

The actress, who portrays Courtney Vance on the Cobbles, explained that she visited her GP after suffering a persistent cough for three weeks.

Her doctor then urged her to visit A&E immediately suspecting she might have developed pneumonia, which is an inflammation of the lungs that can become very serious and even lead to death.

Fortunately, the 31-year-old received reassurance that it was only an infection after medical examination and was prescribed medication to alleviate the infection.

On Tuesday night, the actress, who portrayed Sinead O'Connor in Hollyoaks, shared her experience and expressed gratitude for her mother's support throughout the ordeal.

Taking to her Instagram Story, she shared a black and white photo of her holding her mother Pauline's hand and wrote: “Had a bad chest infection for three weeks now.

Davis shared an update on her Instagram Story (Instagram/Stephanie Davis)

“Went to the doctors today and they sent me to hospital thinking it was pneumonia, thankfully it’s just a really bad infection I can’t shift.

“My lovely mum sat with me for most of the day. So grateful for all she does and has done for me.”

She contiuned: “Felt like it was a therapy session. We ended the day on a good laugh, nearly wetting ourselves in the car park when she screamed thinking her car was bashed, dinted and scratched and then vigorously tried to wipe the mark off to realise it wasn’t her car.

“Love you mum, thank you for always being there.”

Davis also shared that she was given a course of antibiotics and steroids, adding: “I’ve been put on steroids now (they never agree with me) and more antibiotics and something to break up my chest so hopefully can have a day cough free soon.”

The Celebrity Big Brother star, who is asthmatic, has faced hospitalisation for breathing issues before and was admitted to hospital in 2021 with Covid after she “woke up and couldn't move”.

At the time, Davis had not been vaccinated for the coronavirus, despite her asthma putting her at the top of the priority list, because of her serious food allergies.

From her hospital bed, she posted a video to social media wearing an oxygen mask, where she explained that the onset of her symptoms “happened so quick.”
