Coronation Street star Jude Riordan joined by brother on cobbles

Coronation Street's Jude Riordan was joined by his brother on the cobbles - much to the surprise of fans.

The St Helens youngster, who plays Sam Blakeman on the ITV soap, took part in a children's chess tournament during Wednesday night's episode. With the tournament under way during the latest hour-long episode of Corrie, fans saw an excited Sam take his place opposite his opponent, ready to battle it out for a place in the final.

During the scenes, Sam was trying to keep calm and prepare for his semi-final chess game in the Bistro while his opponent, Oscar, and his mother stood opposite, the Manchester Evening News reports.

Sam ultimately won the game meaning he was through to the final and offered his hand to Oscar, who got up and stormed out of the Bistro quickly follow by his mother. As the scenes aired, Jude Riordan, who steals the show playing Sam, took to social media to reveal he know his opponent very well as it was his brother.

In a post on Instagram, which is run by his parents, Jude shared a series of photos of him filming the intense chess scenes with his brother and both of their names on the dressing room door. He wrote: "When it was bring your brother to work day. BEST DAY."

On his Instagram Story, a picture was shared of the TV as Zach appeared on screen. Written across it was: "Seeing your brother on Corrie," before another snap of the pair appeared of them behind-the-scenes in front of a 'Coronation Street' sign. Jude said: "Showing my brother the ropes @zach_rio18."

He also shared the revelation on Twitter, writing: "When it was bring your Brother to work day. Sam smashed Oscar out of the bistro. BEST DAY so far @itvcorrie #bubblebrothers #samvoscar #corrie."

And Corrie fans were quick to share in Jude's delight.
