Coronation Street star confirms return to work after emotionally quitting social media

Coronation Street star Alex Bain has confirmed he is back at work after he emotionally quit social media due to 'personal events'. Last month the actor, who is famed for playing Simon Barlow in the ITV soap, urged people to 'be kind' as he shared a message with fans.

He shared a typed-out message to his Instagram Story as he told them he'd be quitting social media 'for a while'. Alex, 21, explained that ‘due to recent personal life events’, he is ‘taking a break from all forms of social media'. It comes after he deleted all traces of his fiancee from his profile, which boasts more than 24,000 followers.

"I’m sure you can all understand," he continued. "I will still be around, however because of certain numbers of comments made on the recent articles, and numerous other personal reasons, I will stepping away for a while to work on myself and personal healing. For now, unless it’s necessary for me to be here, I will be very absent for a while."

But he has returned fleetingly to his Instagram profile and revealed his joy at being back at Corrie's Salford-based set. Posting a snap from outside the studios showing the huge 'Coronation Street' sign, he said: "So glad to be back working again this week!"

Alex then added alongside the picture: "I have missed you Coronation Street." The actor hasn't been seen on-screen in a few weeks. He confronted his cousin Amy Barlow over her behaviour after her reaction to Adam's affection ahead of Daniel Osbourne and Daisy Midgeley's wedding, which didn't go ahead.

And his cryptic social media post last month came six months after he announced his engagement to Mollie Lockwood. He revealed how he had asked his girlfriend the all-important question in October 2021 and kept it secret from their families until Christmas when they announced the happy news.

They met three years earlier, in October 2019, when Mollie was auditioning for a performing arts college in the North West. Despite being in different years, love appeared to blossom when they got the chance to do a scene together during an acting class. Three years after that moment, Alex decided the time was right, on a romantic night out in Chester, to pop the question on their two-year anniversary.
