Coronation Street star Andy Whyment's wife 'annoyed at herself' as she fumes over reality of family outing

The wife of Coronation Street star Andy Whyment has admitted that she's 'annoyed at herself' after almost having their family outing ruined. Over the weekend, the actor, famed for playing Kirk Sutherland in the ITV soap, posed for a beaming snap with his wife Nichola and their children.

The couple and their kids Tom, 14 and Hollie, 12, joined some pals at an outdoor gig to watch Craig David. However, while Andy appeared to suggest they had a great time, Nichola shared her own versions of events on Instagram.

She posted a smiling selfie of the four of them as well as other snaps of them with the pals they headed to the event with. But she detailed in the caption how the group almost had to leave and their day was ruined by “really drunk people” who wouldn’t leave Andy alone.

She wrote: "Would love to say I had the best time watching Craig, but the reality of it is I didn’t! I enjoyed 11 minutes!! The rest of the time I was on edge due to really drunk people accosting Andy and becoming arsey which resulted in Hollie getting upset and us having to leave!!"

She did, however, explain that they did manage to stay for the entirety of the gig as they were able to move from their original spot. "Luckily @the_bus_yard saved the day and we watched Craig from on there but my head had fallen off at this point."

But still fuming over what happened, Nichola added: “I’m annoyed with myself for thinking that we are able to go somewhere like this as a family and enjoy it. Social media only show the highlights as looking at these pictures you would think we had the best time ever so a little reminder to not compare yourself to others.”

Former Emmerdale actor Danny Miller was among those to comment underneath the post, writing: "So annoying that!! Can’t understand why people can’t let him enjoy it too just as they are!! One of the nicest guys in the business! Sorry people ruined a family day of yours when they were probably doing the same as you and yours without the hassle #NOselecta."

And fans and followers were also keen to show their support. @beverleyw2211 said: "So sorry you experienced this. We saw a celeb out one day having a meal but respected his privacy and didn't approach him." @anneryanm wrote: "Awww, I’m so sorry this happened to you and I hope you are all doing okay now. You all look amazing by the way."

@paulath284 commented: "So sorry this has happened to you. Why do people have to be so disrespectful. Hope you are all ok." @elaine_6565 replied: "You are a lovely family and you should be able to enjoy family time without feeling on edge. I hope your kids are ok." @momma_burbs added: "So sorry to hear this and how it spoilt your night."
