Coronation Street's Victoria Ekanoye supported by fans after cancer battle

Fans have rushed to support former Coronation Street star Victoria Ekanoye as she appeared on Loose Women to discuss her double mastectomy.

The actress revealed she had been diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2021.

The mum-of-one first sought medical advice after finding a lump while feeding her baby boy, Theo.

Ahead of appearing on Loose Women on Wednesday, Victoria took to Twitter to share a photo of herself while in hospital last year.

In the picture, Victoria can be seen smiling and with a thumb up, while breathing through an oxygen mask.

She said: "Join me and the @LooseWomen panel in just a few minutes at 1pm where I’ll be discussing my double mastectomy surgery and the recovery process following my breast cancer diagnosis last year."

Fans quickly replied to wish her well.

David Mackay said: "You’re an absolute superstar, bless you"

Eva Fontaine said: "Sending much love and strength as you deal with this awful time. Really loved your performance on #deathinparadise last week.

"Classy. Well done and keep speaking out. Making a positive difference."

Victoria was diagnosed on October 13 with ductal carcinoma in situ - when cancer cells have developed within the milk ducts in the breast.

She visited three separate doctors to get a diagnosis after having a 'gut feeling' that something wasn't right.

The star, who has sickle cell disease which can cause complications when going under anaesthetic, explained that she would have a reconstruction at the same time.

She said about her double mastectomy and reconstruction: "Yes, it's a more invasive procedure, yes it's a longer recovery time, but ultimately if it can take that large amount of risk away it's peace of mind and it's really good for me because for my mental health, I don't have to worry about it every single day."

Victoria played Angie in Coronation Street from 2017 until 2019.

She has also starred alongside Liz Hurley in The Royals and in The Lion King on the West End.

And in 2019 Victoria was a contestant on Celebrity X Factor.
