Coronation Street's Stephanie Davis shares Courtney details ahead of steamy affair and possible existing link to cobbles

Coronation Street's newest signing Stephanie Davis has been able to tease more details about her character ahead of her first on-screen appearance later this month. The actress has been cast as Courtney Vance in the ITV soap for a heated affair storyline.

The news of former Hollyoaks star Stephanie's signing was revealed back in May. It was said at the time that the 30-year-old will play the glamorous wife of Darren, one of Dev Alahan's new business associates.

She'll join Corrie alongside Ryan Early, who previously starred as Helen Archer’s love interest Lee Bryce in the BBC radio drama The Archers, who has been cast as Darren. And while he works with Dev on his business empire, Courtney begins to pursue a fling with Dev's teen son Aadi Alahan.

Speaking about her character for the first time, Stephanie told the Manchester Evening News and other press: "She's a bit of an onion Courtney. She's got a lot of layers to her and I think sh's very sassy and got a lot f confidence but deep down there's definitely loads fo layers there.

"I can tell by how she is... she's referenced her mum in some of the scenes, only little references, but you can tell she's not had a good life and she's met this Darren who's got loads of money and has probably settled for that to have a good lifestyle but there's no love there."

The soap star, who played Sinead O'Connor in Channel 4's Hollyoaks, added: "I feel that Courtney in a nutshell is longing to be loved." As for Courtney's interest in Aadi, it is suggested that the attraction is "instant" and she wastes no time in "getting in there". Stephanie told us: "It's quite quick! She obviously attracted to him but I think a lot of it comes from her relationship with Darren.

"He's cheated on her multiple times, it's affected her self-worth and her confidence and I know she's attracted to Aadi but I think a lot of it is to get one back on her husband and like I said, she wants someone to love her and he shows that to her and gives her that attention and affection."

And Stephanie says that it is Courtney who makes the first move - and she's used to getting what she wants. "She walks around with Darren's credit cards in her handbag and she's a bit spoilt. What Courtney wants, Courtney gets but that's a big bravado. From what I see playing Courtney, deep down I see her as just a lost little girl."

While it's not yet known how long viewers will be seeing Courtney - and Stephanie - in Weatherfild for, the mum-of-one hopes it's long-term. "I'd love to see her stick around. Like I said, there are so many layers to explore with her," Stephanie said.

Claire Sweeney as Evelyn Plummer in Corrie (ITV)

"She's certainly made herself at home straight away so I'd absolutely love to see her stick around." and she's addressed the possibility of Courtney being related to another Corrie newbie Cassie Plummer who is being played by fellow scouser Claire Sweeney.

"I've had so many messages in my DMs, because Claire Sweeney's gone in and she's Scouse and I'm Scouse, going, 'we know what it is, you're going in as her daughter,' and trying to put the dots together. And I'm reading going, 'this is good,' so who knows. We'll have to wait and see."
