Coronation Street's Spider makes return - as fans 'work out' his big secret

Coronation Street viewers believe they have rumbled soap legend Spider Nugent's secret, after his big return to the soap.

Actor Martin Hancock has reprised his role as the character on the ITV soap after 25 years away.

The ex of Toyah Battersby made a surprise appearance at a protest where Toyah had been, after it emerged she had sent him a message asking for his support.

She wasn't expecting him to show up though, as he soon headed back to Weatherfield with her.

As she asked about him returning, he claimed he was meant to be meeting others anyway so was in the area.

He sparked suspicions with viewers though when he had a cryptic phone conversation with a mystery person, after Toyah had left the room.

It seems he was meant to be somewhere but didn't show, leading to the person he was meant to be meeting giving him a call.

Spider revealed he wasn't able to make it but whatever they were up to, he was still keen to be involved.

He was heard telling the person their plan was still in motion, and that whatever it was they had planned would be going ahead.

Whatever it is, Spider has yet to confirm - but viewers believed they might have it sussed.

Taking to Twitter, some viewers speculated he could be behind Maria Connor's recent trolling, as others predicted he might be called as a witness against Toyah in her case.

One fan tweeted: "What if spider has been called in as a witness against toyah at toyahs murder trial?"

Another guessed: "Wonder if it's Spider and/or his associates trolling Maria," as a third added: "I wonder if he’s an undercover cop."

It comes amid a dark time for Toyah following the recent car crash that she caused, which claimed the life of her husband Imran Habeeb.

In the fallout, she faces prison time for murder, after being accused of deliberately killing Imran in the crash - despite her claims that she can't remember what happened.

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV and ITV Hub.
