Coronation Street's Sair Khan tearfully opens up about her mum's death

Sair Khan has tearfully opened up about her mum’s heartbreaking death.

The Corrie star revealed that losing her mum had been ‘incredibly difficult’ and admitted she has had problems with anxiety.

The actress, who plays Alya Nazir in the ITV soap, spoke on Channel 4's Sink or Swim for Stand Up To Cancer, which sees a group of celebrities attempt to swim the Channel as part of a relay.

Sair said: “I’ve really had my ups and downs about anxiety. And this challenge, you feel so raw and vulnerable.

"What it's actually opened up, it's like a Pandora's box.

"I lost my mum earlier in the year and it's been incredibly difficult for me.”

The actress, 31, also posted a tribute to her mum on Instagram, where she admitted her loss has made her ‘cry enough tears to fill the English Channel’.

She posted a photo of herself with her mum, along with a heartfelt message about her 'Mama'.

“My Mum died. It’s so hard for me to say those words without getting a lump in my throat,” she said.

“Let me tell you a thing or two about the lady I called Mama. She was strong and fierce and a little bit sassy. You definitely wouldn’t mess with her.”

She continued: “This year I have felt a loss so profound that my whole body has ached. I’ve cried enough tears to fill the English Channel. I’ve felt raw pain and I know I’m not the only one.

“I stand in solidarity with all of you who have lost a parent, a friend, or anyone that has shaped you into the person you are today. I honour them and I honour my Mama.”

While it was not cancer that her mum died from, Sair said she can empathise with ‘countless hospital appointments, endless treatment plans and the sleepless nights consumed with worry and fear’, which is why she signed up to the challenge.
