Coronation Street's Joe McIntyre star returning to the soap in a new role

Coronation Street's Joe McIntyre star has announced he is returning to Weatherfield.

Reece Dinsdale played Tina McIntyre's dad in the soap from 2008 to 2010. He was introduced to Gail Platt when his daughter was dating her son, David.

And the pair soon hit it off. They began a relationship in secret, before tying the knot two years later.

Things were not meant to happily for the couple, though. When Joe got into debt he took out a loan from crooked Rick, and soon wound up owing more than he could ever repay.

In an attempt to ease his financial woes, Joe tried to fake his own death so he could claim on his life insurance. But things went wrong, and Joe died on his boat.

Now, Reece has announced he'll come back to the cobbles, in an entirely different role. In a tweet on Wednesday, the 62-year-old said: "Been enjoying a break before I begin directing some #Emmerdale episodes when #Corrie called to ask me to go shoot some more stuff for them. Well chuffed! Must be doing summat right." [sic]

Fans were quick to wish Reece well. Kelvin Dale-Greaves said: "Genuine, honest, hard working with great talent will always be in demand - your father would be so so proud sir". Heather Costello said: "Well done Reece", while Bethen Thope said: "Good for you!"
