Coronation Street's Fiz star Jennie McAlpine leaves Weatherfied for 'new job'

Jennie McAlpine has played Fiz on Coronation Street for more than 20 years.

But the star, who has been at the centre of some of the soap's most dramatic storylines, will soon take a break from the cobbles as her character is offered a lucrative new job. Fiz, who has worked at Underworld for many years, applies for a supervisor job in Norwich.

Not only is she given the role, but Stephen Reid tells her it comes with double her current salary. And despite the fact he'll obviously miss her, her husband Tyrone tells her to take the job.

Corrie spoilers reveal Fiz will leave Weatherfield next week, after packing her bags for Norwich. She will be waved off by Evelyn and her daughters, Hope and Ruby, as she heads off with Tyrone to the station.

Of course, viewers will know Fiz actress Jennie, 39, is actually on maternity leave. She told OK! magazine back in January that she was pregnant.

At the time, Jennie said: "It just feels really nice. We’re so over the moon. The thought of adding to our family mix and chaos was the best Christmas present! I’m really excited for 2023 – it’ll be a special one."

Jennie also shares two children, Albert, eight, and Hilda, four, with husband Chris Farr.

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV and ITVX
