Coronation Street star Colson Smith had fans swooning when he took to social media with a fresh selfie. But he soon left them disappointed shortly after debuting his new look.
The 24-year-old actor, who is best known for playing the loveable cop PC Craig Tinker on the ITV soap, showed fans that he isn't always the baby-faced cop we see on the small screen after they watched him grow up on screen as he was just 12 years old when he first set foot onto the famous cobbles.
Posting a picture of himself to his Instagram grid, Colson could be seen sporting a black hoody and matching snapback as he gave his best serious pose towards the camera. But everyone was more focused on his new look as he wrote: "Grew a beard for a bit."

But just as fans were flooding him with compliments, they appeared to miss the fact that he added: "Anyways I’ve shaved it off for the return of Craig Tinker…"
His followers were still flooding him with demands to 'keep' the facial hair. So Colson also posted in the comments: "It’s already gone I’m afraid folks. TINKS will always be a baby faced copper!" And @katierivsx was quick to respond by writing: "U should’ve kept it."
@nicolew4768 commented: "You need to convince the bosses that Tinks should have a beard." @poffers76 replied: "Craig needs a beard!!!" @xxaj1 posted: "The beard defo gives you an edge! I like it, it suits you." @laura.alexandra88 wrote: "It’s a shame you can’t keep for Craig Tinker. I would make the character seem a tad older."
@tomshep83 shared: "Get them to write Craig in with a beard - you never look back once you get a good beard going." @marilynbruzzese typed: "Love the beard. I think ‘our Craigie’ should grow a beard too." @panddbarnes added: "Can't you persuade the show to let you have it? Looks great."
Meanwhile, Colson had a lot to be happy about as he and two of his Corrie co-stars took to the stage last week. The soap star, along with Jack P Shepherd and Ben Price, appeared at The Lowry for their sold-out show for their Sofa Cinema Club podcast.
Posting a picture of the trio beaming on stage with their audience posing in the back, Colson wrote: "One of those moments," alongside a love heart eyes emojis. He added: "Playing The Lowry with 2 of my best mates for @SofaCinemaClub LIVE."
