Andy Whyment was left a tad red-faced over the weekend when he mistakenly called his Coronation Street co-star of 14 years the wrong name. The actor is best known, and much-loved, among fans for playing Kirk Sutherland in the ITV soap.
On Friday night the cast were out for their spring party, their first big get-together since 2019 before the coronavirus pandemic put a halt to all gatherings. The Salford-based soap stars glammed up and let their hair down at Manchester's Science and Industry Museum before sharing a glimpse inside on social media.
The likes of Elle Mulvaney (Amy Barlow), Samia Longchambon (Maria Windass), and Millie Gibson (Kelly Neelan) have been sharing selfies and photobooth snaps from the do on their social media pages.
Among the first to post, however, was Andy who has starred in the soap since 2000. He met up with Alan Halsall, who has played mechanic Tyrone Dobbs for 24 years, Phill Whittaker actor Jamie Kenna and Mikey North, known to viewers for playing Gary Windass for a pre-party drink.
The pair were set outside in the Manchester sun with their pints as they smiled for the group selfie. Andy, 41, captioned the post: "Pre @coronationstreet party drinks with @alanhalsall @thejamiekenna and Mikey North."
However, the caption of the fab pic has since been edited after Andy failed to realise he had called Mikey 'Mickey' instead. Among those to call it was Samia, Andy's on-screen sister, who asked: "Who’s Micky??" with crying laughing emojis.
Kel Allen, who recently left the soap in heartbreaking scenes as Laura Neelan, also said: "Oh Micky you’re so fine, you’re so fine, you’re so fine oh Micky..... Who’s Micky?" with Colson Smith, Corrie's Craig Tinker, also writing: "I love Micky."
Replying to Samia a day after he posted, Andy said: "Only just realised I’d put Micky [crying laughing emojis] I’ve just changed it," as he also told Kel the same.
Those ignoring his mistake were his on-screen wife Lisa George, who plays Beth, who commented: "Have fun guys!" and Toyah Battersby star Georgia Taylor who said: "Lads, lads, lads!!!!" with a flame emoji.
But despite the error, Corrie fans were thrilled to see the foursome together and out enjoying themselves. @tamdurston said: "Nice to see you guys enjoying a bit of Sun and drinks!"
"Ohhhh ain't you a lovley bunch have fun sweeties," @keighleyshortiemars wrote as @alisonmunroscott commented: "Cracking photo boys."
