Coronation Street's Andy Whyment had to phone up mum during I'm A Celebrity as he reignites Janice Dickinson feud

Coronation Street star Andy Whyment has revealed that he had to phone his mum during his latest appearance on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here as he spoke out on his unexpected exit. The soap star was among the memorable contestants who signed up for the new spin-off of the ITV reality show.

I'm A Celebrity... South Africa, which comes to an end on Friday (May 12), sees former campmates in the new setting of Kruger National Park in the South African bush compete together to win food for camp before going head-to-head in survival challenges to save themself from an exit, all in a bid to be crowned the first I'm A Celeb 'Legend'.

But after just missing out on the crown in 2019, it appears it wasn't Andy's time to win this time either as he and Georgia 'Toff' Toffolo became the latest celebs to leave the camp after being locked in a head-to-head battle with Myleene Klass and Jordan Banjo.

Made In Chelsea star Toff and actor Andy, who is famed for plaing Kirk Sutherland in ITV soap Corrie, left by boat after being covered in sticky molasses in their final trial. But as they waved goodbye to the I'm A Celeb spin-off, the winners got to feast at the final picnic by the waterfall, with a celebratory bottle of champagne.

And Andy's exit comes days after he was seen in a completely different light in camp as tensions brewed between himself and Janice Dickinson. "He hates me. He doesn’t want to do anything for me," supermodel Janice, 68, was heard saying during I'm A Celeb scenes aired last week.

And realising that she was supposedly talking about him – and overhearing what she said – Andy, 42, whipped around to ask: "You saying I don’t want to do anything for you?" Janice then replied: "No I didn’t say that," while it looked like singer-turned-presenter Myleene Klass was caught right bang in the middle of the argument. Later in the Bush Telegraph, Andy explained why he was irritated.

"There’s no please, no nothing," he said referring to Janice's demands to her fellow campmates. "It was just 'do this'. It’s like, 'Well no, I’m not your slave.'" It came after Janice told Andy: "Andy, I need a wreath. I need you to make me a wreath out of some leaves." But the soap star told her: "You’ve picked the wrong person there. I can’t make a wreath."

Following the airing of his exit, Andy appears to have reignited his feud with Janice, telling The Sun in his first big chat: "I’m just a normal down to earth guy and I just don’t like it when people are rude." He added: "I know Janice is a really, really famous person whereas I’m just Kirk from Corrie but manners cost nothing."

He went on: "I was in the jungle with Caitlyn Jenner in 2019 and she’s a massive star and she wasn’t rude like Janice. I don’t think there’s any need for it. I don’t know if it’s for the cameras or something. There were times when she was lying in bed and then Ant and Dec would come in and she’d jump up."

But Andy did also admit that things were harder this time around after viewers saw him struggling with lack of food during the 'prides' challenge. "I’m not going to lie. I was over the rice and beans in 2019, so to be on it for five days… I found it tougher this time," he added to the publication.

"In 2019 I was in there for 18 nights and three were rice and beans, but not consecutive days. So rice and beans for five days out of seven, it’s not good at all. I got a bit angry. I think there was one point where my head fell off, I was moaning in camp and saying 'it's all b******s'. I had to ring my mum the day after it was shown on screen and apologise for my swearing."
