Coronation Street Roy Cropper worried as Nina drastically changes after attack

Coronation Street's Roy Cropper is set to be very worried for his niece Nina Lucas after she makes a drastic change following the attack which killer her boyfriend Seb Franklin.

David Neilson, who plays beloved cafe owner Roy, said his character is upset to see Nina change her goth appearance after she and Seb were attacked because of how she looked.

Roy is concerned that his niece's sparkle may forever have been snuffed out by the hateful attack which caused builder Seb to die of his catastrophic injuries in hospital - reports the Manchester Evening News.

David, who has received high praise for his moving scenes in the ITV soap alongside Mollie Gallagher as Nina, said: "He feels terrible that she’s going to become more like him - beige.

"And she’s conforming. I think the thing is with Roy he avoids the crowds and Nina is not part of the crowd and suddenly she wants to dress to be invisible, and to be part of the crowd and he can see that’s damaging to her individuality and personality but it is obviously a phase."

He added about Mollie, who arrived on our screens as Nina in November 2019 in her first TV role: "The thing is she does it brilliantly as well. It’s the way she plays it, the subtle differences in the character."

When Nina arrives home from hospital Seb's mum Abi approaches and rails at her, saying if she didn't dress the way she did her son would still be alive today.

Nina is left shaken to the core and tells Roy she thinks that Abi is right.

In another powerful scene viewers see a flash of anger from the usually mild-mannered Roy when Nina's ex Asha comes to visit her and sticks up for her boyfriend Corey Brent who is a prime suspect in the attack.

Asked if kindly Roy would ever want revenge, David said: "I think as Roy, the rational person that he is, living by this moral code, he would believe in rationality and the system to care of it.

"But if something happens, like all of us really, if something happens to me and mine, I think he’s capable of anything. I think he could be quite dangerous.

"If something happens to Nina, he’s only human but that’s not the way forward for society or to deal with it.

"It’s almost like it feels to me that he’s got the brake on, it’s a handle for me and the character."

Nina is now the only remaining family member for Roy, who went through the tragic loss of his wife Hayley in 2014.

He took the teen under his wing out of a sense of duty following the death of her father Richard and the tragedy brings them closer with Roy adopting more of a fatherly role towards the girl.

He said: "Over this period, and the attack, him sitting by the bed thinking about life and the possibility of her not being there he feels a tremendous sense of loss, the duty aspect of everything, there is more to it than that. He is dreading what could occur.

"He moves on in a way to a real relationship to being a father really, which he has to act.

"When he’s close to losing her he realises what a terrible loss it would be because she is family."
